Former Cincinnati Bengals and Las Vegas Raiders Linebacker, Vontaze Burfict was arrested in Las Vegas over the weekend. The details of his arrest have emerged, and are about as outlandish as you could imagine. Police detained Burfict in the Cosmopolitan, the Las Vegas resort, casino, and hotel after he allegedly assaulted a security guard. Why did he assault a security guard? Because he couldn’t find the location of the Cosmopolitan restaurant “Secret Pizza.”
According to witnesses and the LVPD spokesperson, Vontaze Burfict and “at least one other person” were looking for “Secret Pizza,” the Cosmopolitan speakeasy for pizza. Burfict and his company had trouble finding the hidden joint, becoming frustrated. The restaurant, according to Barstool Sport’s Dave Portnoy at least, is neither hard to find nor worth finding.
Again, according to what sources told TMZ, the posse noticed security trailing them. This led to an altercation between Burfict and the security officer. The security guards claim that Burfict “got physical” during this tussle. The guards detained Vontaze Burfict until police arrived on the scene. Police then arrested Burfict and brought him into custody. Burfict has not released his account of the events.
Vontaze Burfict History of Violence
Vontaze Burfict does not have the best track record in terms of “unnecessary roughness,” as one might categorize this incident. Over the course of his career, Burfict has received four different suspensions, three of which had to do with dirty hits. The fourth suspension regarded a failed PED test at the beginning of the 2018 season.
Burfict has also forfeited a total of $5.3 million to the NFL due to fines and suspensions since 2013. From unsportsmanlike conduct penalties to late hits, Burfict is notorious for his dirty play. He has even been known to step on players and twist players’ ankles in the pile. With this in mind, his arrest does not come as a surprise for many who have known him throughout his career.
