LeBron James has the need for speed and safety in a weird sort of way. James was spotted cruising down the highway in a black Porsche 918 Spyder convertible wearing a mask.

LeBron James Caught on Camera

A self-described car enthusiast named Alex spotted the rare sportscar and whipped out his phone to catch it on camera. Little did he know that NBA superstar LeBron James was behind the wheel.

James gives a little wave and shows off the get-up-and-go his whip has. He steps on the gas to pedal his way down the highway, living life in the fast lane.

After all, James just signed a two-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers worth $85 million. James, 35, could have become a free agent next summer, but the 16-time All-Star will remain with the Lakers through the 2022-23 season. His previous contract had a player option for 2021-2022.

Additionally, James just got the nod for Sports Illustrated’s Sportsperson of the Year. This is the third time Lebron has been given the award and the first time for Sports Illustrated to name the same person three times.

As a matter of fact, this could be a way the four-time champion is celebrating.

Limited Edition Porsche Specs

The Porsche 918 Spyder is something that the high-end car brand refers to as one of their supercars. Porsche only produced 918 of these cars between 2013 and 2015, making this a limited edition vehicle.

The 918 Spyder sticker price started at $845,000. However, according to AutomobileMag.com, these types of whips have actually appreciated since leaving the car lot. Recent records show this Porsche model selling between $1.1 million and $1.7 million.

What’s under the hood you ask? A 5.7 liter V-10 engine, plus a 6.8-kWh battery. This is what makes the sports car “hybrid.”

The speed on this vehicle is something that car enthusiasts dream of. The Porsche hybrid can go from 0 to 100 in 4.9 seconds.

Furthermore, AutomobileMag describes the car like this, “The 918 Spyder stands as one of the most cutting-edge, tech-forward vehicles the German automaker has ever produced.”
