As if the draft weekend could not get any better, one Kansas City Chiefs fan turned his draft experience into a love story for the ages.
The heart-warming story started with the fan announcing that the Chiefs would be selecting Trey Smith, a guard out of Tennessee. But instead of exiting the stage after that, he took a big gulp and did perhaps the bravest thing he has ever done. He proposed to his girlfriend on the draft stage in front of thousands of diehard football fans.
And what’s more, this fan proposed using a quote from the couple’s favorite superhero movie Deadpool, starring Ryan Reynolds.
“In the words of our favorite superhero, Wade Wilson, you’re the jigsaw piece whose curvy edges complete my life,” he says on stage. “Will you marry me?”
Modeling his proposal after Wade Wilson in the movie, he even went as far as to model propose with a ring pop like Reynolds’ character does in the movie. Needless to say, it was an incredibly special moment for the couple, Chiefs fans, and for football fans around the world. And spoiler alert, his girlfriend said yes.
The official Twitter account of the Kansas City Chiefs got hold of the adorable footage and posted it on Saturday evening. They even made sure to tag Reynolds in their post. Take a look at the video below for yourself. It is sure to pull on some heartstrings so don’t say we didn’t warn you.
“After announcing the Trey Smith pick, OUR GUY PROPOSED TO HIS GIRLFRIEND DEADPOOL STYLE,” the Chiefs wrote alongside the video. “@VancityReynolds LET’S GOOOOOOOOOO”
Ryan Reynolds Responds to Engagement of Kansas City Chiefs Fans
It was set to be the memory of a lifetime for the newly engaged Kansas City Chiefs fans. But little did they know, things were about to get even better for them.
What put the entire proposal over the top is that their favorite actor even took the time to reach out to them. Deadpool actor, Ryan Reynolds, chimed in on Saturday evening, replying to the Kansas City Chiefs video of the engagement. In doing so, Reynolds made a joke about Chiefs fan and fellow actor Paul Rudd. Rudd, of course, plays as “Ant-Man” in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and grew up in the Kansas City area.
“I thought everyone in KC was an Ant-Man fan,” Reynolds responded. “Congrats to the happy couple!”
Meanwhile, we still don’t know the fan’s name just yet. But nonetheless, it was definitely one of the best NFL engagements we’ve seen in a while.
