On Thursday, Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes smoked his teammate Travis Kelce in a beer chugging contest.

Mahomes and the Chiefs tight end are playing in the annual American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament this weekend. The yearly celebrity tournament takes place at Tahoe Golf Course in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Numerous celebrities and other famous athletes also took part in the charity golf tournament. In fact, Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers also played in the charity event.

The two Kansas City Chiefs teammates took a break on Thursday from their practice round. The pair each shotgunned a beer on the golf course with Mahomes impressively beating out the larger Kelce. Both of the NFL stars chugged their beers in around three seconds. But the 25-year-old QB seemed to come out on top against the tight end in the contest by a split second.

This isn’t the first time the pair have partied on Lake Tahoe during the annual charity golf tournament. Just last year Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and their significant others had a boat party on the lake. The group swam and chugged more beers together during that event as well.

As for this year’s American Century Championship, Curry is currently leading Mahomes, Kelce, and Rodgers on the golf course. However, former Atlanta Braves pitcher turned broadcaster John Smoltz is leading the field going into Day 2. Smoltz went two under during the first of three rounds yesterday. The 54-hole charity event continues today and will wrap up on Sunday.

Patrick Mahomes on Track to Make Full Recovery From Offseason Surgery

About six weeks ago, Patrick Mahomes returned to the practice field for the first time after undergoing surgery to repair his February turf toe injury. The Chiefs quarterback took part in the first organized team activities of the offseason.

Previously, the NFL Network’s James Palmer reported that the former NFL MVP was on schedule with his rehab work. In addition, he reported that Mahomes would take part in Kansas City’s OTAs.

“Per source, Patrick Mahomes is ahead of schedule in his rehab and will participate in the #chiefs OTAs that start on May 25th,” Palmer tweeted. “The thought right now is he will ‘do some stuff’ and will then be fully ready to go for training camp.”

The Kansas City Chiefs’ official Twitter account shared a short video of Mahomes at practice for the first time since the injury. The clip showed the QB taking part in passing drills on the second day of OTAs.

Patrick Mahomes injured his toe against the Cleveland Browns in last season’s AFC divisional game. He suffered a turf toe injury but went on to play in the Super Bowl against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Mahomes got chased around the field constantly by Tampa’s defense and couldn’t seem to get going like usual. The Bucs’ game plan contained the star quarterback on the way to a Super Bowl LV victory.

Doctors performed surgery on Mahomes foot to repair a tear in the plantar plate. Specialist Dr. Robert Anderson performed the successful surgery in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Mahomes is looking good to go for the start of the 2021 NFL season.
