While accepting his induction, Peyton Manning turns his attention to his NFL rival and friend, Tom Brady.
“Next year acceptance speeches are probably going to shrink to four minutes. Speaking of rivals, my good friend Tom Brady is here tonight. By the time he is inducted…“ He pauses in between the laughter and other noise. “In his first year of eligibility in the year 2035, he’ll only have time to post his acceptance speech on his Instagram account.”
Payton Manning was among the seven selected for the 2021 Class Hall of Fame Induction. Those also in the Class include Drew Pearson, Tom Flores, John Lynch, Calvin Johnson, Alan Faneca, and Charles Woodson.
Peyton Manning Delivers Amazing Acceptance at the Hall of Fame Induction
During his acceptance speech, Peyton Manning opens up about the future of football.
“When we leave this stage tonight, it will no longer be about us, Manning explains. “It is about cultivating the game that has given so much to us. It’s about nurturing football to live and thrive another day, another year, another decade, and another generation.”
Peyton Manning also says that it’s also about guaranteeing that kids everywhere can learn, bond, grow, and have fun with every flag pulled, every tackle made, every pass thrown, every run, block, sack, and a touchdown.
“The audience here tonight is made up of die-hard fans who feel football deep in their bones. Now we may have a night at the fire, but you have fanned the flames. And those flames will be whipped by the winds of change.”
But Peyton Manning admits that those flames do not need to smolder. “The future of this game is ours to shape, we just need to take on our shoulders as readily as we don our pads before each game. Let this moment become a cherished memory. And remember, a legacy is only worthwhile when there is a future to fuel.”
The NFL also posted a special of Peyton Manning to honor his years of dedication in the pro-football league.
Manning Presented With His Own HOF Bust
Along with his induction, Peyton Manning was also presented with his Hall of Fame (HOF) bust. Peyton’s father, Archie Manning, presented him with the bust. The Denver Broncos, Manning’s former team, shared the touching moment of Archie and Peyton reacting to the bust.
Manning was selected first over in the 1998 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts and went on to play 14 seasons with the team. Peyton then joined the Denver Broncos and spent a total of 4 seasons on that team before retiring in March 2016. He received the 2016 ESPY Icon Award. Manning also won a total of nine ESPY Awards during his pro football career. He has also been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
