Although a fourth stimulus check has not been announced, here is how Americans may be able to qualify for two $1,400 payments this month.

According to the Sun, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki recently revealed that the Biden administration is now working on a bill. It is looking to reinstate payments for Child Tax Credit if it is passed. “If we get it done in January, we’ve talked to Treasury officials and others about doing double payments in February. As an option,” she explained.

The media outlet notes that the new plan will be similar to when people opted out of the child tax credit program in order to receive extra money in their December check. If a family has gained another dependent since December, they might be able to receive more money.

Although this plan is currently in the works, it was noted that the Biden administration has not given up on the Build Back Better bill, which did include child tax credit. But there has been pushback by members of Congress over the bill. Therefore, it may be broken down into smaller parts in order to pass.

Petition for Monthly $2,000 Stimulus Checks Hits Three Million Signatures

According to CNBC, a Change.org petition for $2,000 monthly stimulus checks now has more than three million signatures. As previously reported, the petition is called “$2,000/month to every American.” The organizer, Stephanie Bonin, and her husband, Keith Arnold, are co-owners of Denver’s Duo Restuarant. The couple was forced to close their restaurant due to the financial burden that the COVID-19 pandemic caused.

Bonin states that her story isn’t uncommon and many Americans are now facing large debts from 2020 for various bills. “It took nine months for Congress to send a second stimulus check and just moments to spend it.”

Bonin stated that at the time of their restaurant’s closing, she and her husband knew they wouldn’t get unemployment insurance. Although their now former employees would receive benefits, it would no way match their weekly paychecks and tips. “Their livelihood was on our shoulders. That was what was keeping us up at night. How are we going to make sure that they can work?”

The Change.org petition is seeking $2,000 per month in stimulus checks during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although they were able to re-open their restaurant, Bonin and her husband had to shut the establishment down again, this time for a week. This was due to an employee testing positive for the virus. They told the media outlet that they lost $30,000 in income for the week. But they still paid about $9,000 towards their payroll due to paid leave mandates.

Speaking about her stimulus check petition surpassing three million signatures, Bonin explains that uncertainties over the past two years have kept the campaign popular. “I think that’s what 3 million people are saying. Which is ‘We just need certainty. We need to have something we can plan on month after month.”
