The latest developments in the Gabby Petito case involved officials recovering a body believed to match her identity from the Spread Creek Dispersed Campsite. The search for Brian Laundrie continues as he remains a person of interest in the investigation. The North Port Police Department is now aiding the FBI who has full jurisdiction and leads the case.

While several sightings of Laundrie have been reported around Alabama, none are completely substantiated yet. In the meantime, search warrants for the van and electronics from the Laundrie residence are now available to the public.

While autopsy results are still underway, an outpouring of support for the Petito family spans far beyond their local community. A makeshift memorial for Gabby Petito continues to expand near the North Port City Hall in Florida, where she lived. In the latest outpouring of love, a memorial site also appeared in Wyoming. This site includes stones arranged into the shape of a cross. It is located at the campsite where officials found the body believed to be Gabby.

Memorial Site Honors Gabby Petito and Her Family

It’s hard not to get emotionally invested in Gabby Petito’s case. The 22-year-old “van life” woman usually appeared bubbly and bright across her social media pages. She drew in an audience for sharing tidbits of her cross-country travels. Officials have yet to speak to or even locate her prior road trip partner Brian Laundrie. As internet sleuths try to help the FBI move the case forward, the public is also doing what it can to support the Petito family.

After internet tips led to the site the body was found, officials closed the site to the public for much of the weekend. Upon opening it back up to the public, DailyMail reported on the condition of the scene. They found a pink ribbon tied to the bushes by Gabby’s alleged parked spot on the side of the road. They also found multiple instances of pink marker tape left behind by investigators on the outskirts of the site. At the actual site where they discovered the body, a red-marked ring remains. Within that ring, there is now a memorial.

Much like the rainbow that appeared above the site during the investigator’s search, the stone cross is a powerful symbol. It can mean many different things to many different people, but a lot of people find strength, hope, and faith within the symbol. These are all things the public wishes for the family of Gabby Petito as they face this difficult time.
