Sturgis Motorcycle Rally 2021: Boy Raises Whopping Amount of Cash at ‘Donation Only’ Lemonade Stand at Rally

by Clayton Edwards

The general public doesn’t have a great opinion of motorcycle riders. In fact, they tend to lump all two-wheel enthusiasts into the “outlaw biker” category. That just isn’t fair. There are actually more law-abiding clubs out there today than anything else. People ride for countless reasons. Many of them just enjoy the freedom they feel on two wheels. However, even the ones who ride for nefarious clubs can have big hearts. One young man learned just how generous motorcycle enthusiasts can be when he set up a lemonade stand on the way to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Sturgis is one of the biggest motorcycle rallies on the planet and this year’s rally is bigger than usual. Thousands of people rolled into Sturgis to take part in the post-pandemic rally this year. The town’s city manager said that people came from all around the world to gather in the Black Hills. So, that little lemonade stand is getting plenty of business.

According to a Fox News report, Wyatt Dennis is an 8-year-old boy with a donations-only lemonade stand. He started the stand last year to earn money to buy a Lego set. He made that money plus some to donate to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. This year, Dennis is aiming higher. He plans to buy a dirt bike and save money for college. Additionally, the young entrepreneur will donate thirty percent of his earnings to St. Jude’s. He told a local  Fox affiliate that he even has a breakdown of what he wants to do with the cash. Half of his earnings will go to his college fund. After college and charity, he’ll put the remaining twenty percent toward the dirt bike. As of this morning, Dennis had earned over $4,500.

Sturgis Motorcycle Rally Attendees Help Out

Derek Swain is attending the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and is staying at a nearby campground. He came across Wyatt’s lemonade stand and posted on Facebook about it.

In his post, he said, “If you are traveling between Rapid City and Sturgis on your bike, stop by the Tilford exit!” He went on to tell everyone why. “There is a motorcycle-loving little boy who is giving away free lemonade and water to any and every one. Please stop by and give him a huge thank you and show off your rides.”

Swain ended his post by saying, “The lemonade is DELICIOUS!!! Also, tip the damn kid. It’s hot out, and he’s gonna need to start saving now for that Harley.” Then, Swain learned what Dennis planned to do with the money and added, “Get out here and support a kid doing some good in this world.”

Attendees of the Sturgis Motorcycle rally and folks from the surrounding areas did just that. They shared Swain’s post tens of thousands of times. More importantly, they visited the lemonade stand.
