Taco Bell Joins ‘Chicken Wars’ Bringing Back Fan-Favorite Menu Item

The Chicken Wars just got a bit spicier as Taco Bell has officially thrown their hat into the ring by bringing back this fan-favorite menu item.

Taco Bell, known for its tacos and burritos, has now entered the chicken wars. However, this Mexican-style chain is adding its own twist, or should we say its own fold.

On Tuesday, Taco Bell announced it’s bringing back its Naked Chicken Chalupa, which consists of a chalupa made with a fried chicken shell. Fox News noted that the chicken shelled taco will be available starting tomorrow. However, it will only be here for a limited time.

Just about every fast-food chain is now offering their variation of the chicken sandwich. So far, Chick-fil-A and Popeyes are the fan favorites, but McDonald’s should not be overlooked. We may have to have a taste-off of our own. Only then can we crown one chicken as the supreme sandwich of all sandwiches.

In the announcement, Taco Bell said they would be entering the Chicken wars to give customers “a different way to enjoy chicken” instead of the “chicken sandwich sameness.”

Furthermore, Taco Bell won’t make the Naked Chicken Chalupa with just any chicken sitting around. Absolutely not! It’s made with love… and all-white meat chicken, “marinated in bold Mexican spices, rolled in a crunchy coating and crisped to perfection.”

Once “perfection” is reached, the chalupa will be filled with lettuce, cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes, and avocado ranch sauce.

Yes, we are drooling.

Excited Taco Bell fans can order the specialty item on its own ($3.49) or as a Crispy Chalupa Box ($5.99). The Box also features a beef burrito, a crunchy taco, and a medium fountain drink.

Taco Bell Isn’t A “Follower”

Liz Matthews, chief food innovation officer for the company, said that this is just the beginning for the chain restaurant.

“The Naked Chicken Chalupa is just the beginning of Taco Bell’s chicken offerings this year with more unexpected menu items being introduced at a later time.”

Matthews continued, saying that replicating other fast-food chains was not part of Taco Bell’s “philosophy.”

“When you look at the industry, you see the same sandwich being introduced as new everywhere, but at Taco Bell, being a follower isn’t our philosophy,” Matthews said in a statement. “We’ve listened to our fans, and we’re confident this is the perfect time to bring back this fan favorite.”
