Taco Bell Removing Popular Menu Item This Month

by Halle Ames

Listen up, Taco Bell fans, the popular fast-food chain is changing up their menu and removing a fan-favorite item.

If you are a fan of the five-layer burrito, take a breath. Your favorite isn’t going anywhere. We just wanted to keep you on your toes.

However, Quesalupa fans… unfortunately, we cannot say the same for you. Taco Bell is giving it the boot at the end of the month.

Goodbye Dear Friend

According to a report from the Thrillist, Taco Bell warned fans that the Chalupa-quesadilla hybrid wasn’t going to last for long. And boy, they weren’t lying. On Wednesday, a spokesperson for the fast-food chain told the news site to get it while you still can.

“Fans are encouraged to satisfy their Quesalupa craving before it leaves Taco Bell’s menu later this month.”

The Quesalupa only returned to Taco Bell fans from its long-awaited slumber on March 11. This time around, however, the Quesalupa had double the deliciousness with 50 percent more cheese. Umm, yum!

This comeback was the first time the food item has appeared on the menu since it first debuted in 2016. It was part of the marketing behind the highly anticipated Super Bowl reveal. Furthermore, Taco Bell even went to the lengths to release an animated short film for the beloved Quesalupa.

The film hits home for the Reddit community, portraying one fan’s story of the lengthy journey they went on to eat the Quesalupa once again.

The video titled “u/Tmanowen’s Adventure” tells the story of how Reddit user u/tmanowen “fell in love with the Quesalupa and how heartbroken he was when it left the menu.” So, when he heard about its return in March, he flew 900 miles to a test market in Knoxville, Tennessee, to be reunited with his favorite.

Taco Bell On the Birth of the Beloved Quesalupa

Liz Matthews, Taco Bell’s global chief food innovation officer, said in a statement at the time about how the Quesalupa is the perfect “cheesy experience.”

“Behind the scenes in our Test Kitchen, my team is constantly hard at work ideating on how to enhance the food experience for our guests,” Matthews said. “Our customers raved about the cheese-filled Chalupa shell in its first debut, so when the Quesalupa began its return journey back to our nationwide menus, we knew we needed to perfect that cheesy experience — one that will be consistent for every guest and every bite.”

So, you better get moving if you want to get in your last Quesalupa fix while you still can!
