Amtrak Train Smashes Into Semi-Truck Car-Hauler at Railroad Crossing: VIDEO

An Amtrak train slammed into a semi-truck car-hauler that was stuck on the train tracks in Oklahoma, and one bystander captured it all on camera.

The crash occurred Friday night at 8 p.m. EST, as Amtrak Train 822 traveled between Fort Worth, Texas, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. As the train passed through Thackerville near the border of the two states, the tractor-trailer car-hauler stuck while trying to cross the tracks.

Love County Sheriff Marty Grisham told ABC News that “the tracks are built up a little bit higher” at that specific railroad crossing.

“He had a lot of cars on the trailer. When he tried to cross over the tracks, the trailer high-centered on the tracks. Causing him to be stuck and not able to move his tractor-trailer rig any further off the track,” Grisham told the outlet. “Everything was just stuck.”

Brandon Sampson, a local, captured the eventual collision on camera. You can see the tractor-trailer stuck on the tracks, with the railroad crossing gates trying and failing to lower. The double-decker hauler just sits there as the Amtrak train horn blares, moments before the crash.

The train can’t slow down or stop, so it barrels right through the tractor-trailer. An entire SUV goes flying up in the air, while pieces of debris and other cars soar on both sides of the track. The train even demolishes one of the railroad crossing gates. You can see the crash for yourself in the ABC News tweet below.

Sampson called 911. While the tractor-trailer driver and his dog felt “shaken up,” they received no uninjuries, according to a Facebook post from the Love County Sheriff Office.

However, authorities took five people on the Amtrak train to the hospital to treat non-life-threatening injuries. But a hospital spokesperson confirmed Saturday afternoon that everyone received treatment and the hospital released them.

Amtrak Train Shows Extensive Damage After Crash with Tractor-Trailer

Per The Daily Mail, parts of the rail bed where the train crashed into the semi-truck car-hauler received damage. And photos of the Amtrak train’s interior show a messy scene, with broken windows and destroyed overhead luggage racks. The crash dented the exterior of the train as well, but the cars on the car hauler received the most damage.

The collision completely demolished some cars, while pieces of others scattered the area around the crash. On Friday evening, the Love County Sheriff Office warned people to avoid the area because clean-up would take several hours. By Saturday morning, operations resumed in the area.

An Amtrak spokesperson also told ABC News they’d be conducting a “traffic investigation” for the event as well. Local and state authorities will participate in the investigation.
