Another Hiker Is Currently Missing in Grand Teton National Park Where Gabby Petito’s Body Was Found

Months before Gabby Petito went missing and turned up dead in Grand Teton National Park, another hiker disappeared in the same location.

Cian McLaughlin went missing on June 8. The 27-year-old went for a hike in Grand Teton Nation Park and hasn’t been seen since, according to The Sun. His mother, Grainne McLaughlin, has now come to the park herself to search for him.

Both McLaughlin’s originally lived in Ireland. Cian moved to Jackson, Wyoming to work as a snowboard instructor and bartender. Now, Grainne is visiting to try and find her son.

“At this phase, we have absolutely no idea,” she told NewsNationNow. “We are trying to understand what may have happened.”

On June 8, the day he went missing like Gabby Petito, Cian was hiking on the Lupine Meadows Trail. A witness last spotted him around 3:45 in the afternoon.

“We are really appealing to anybody who was in the park June 8, 9, or 10 to look back at their videos or photographs in the background,” Grainne McLaughlin said. “If you met Cian, he has a very Irish accent.”

According to his mother, Cian was an experienced outdoorsman. But even experts struggle with dangerous trail conditions. Grand Teton National Park reportedly faced trouble in early June due to melting snow and ice on the trails.

“Back in June, we were told this was not a rescue anymore, that it was definitely a recovery, which is very hard to hear,” Grainne McLaughlin said. “But I just felt the need to come back here to the Grand Teton to connect with him and do the searching myself.”

She added, “I know he is there. And what I want is to bring him home.”

Gabby Petito’s Case Brings Up More Missing Hikers in Grand Teton National Park

Gabby Petito went missing on Sept. 11, and authorities discovered her body in Grand Teton National on Sept. 19. During the search for answers to her death, authorities found another body of a missing hiker.

Forty-six-year-old Robert “Bob” Lowery apparently died by suicide with a gunshot wound to the head in late August. Authorities discovered his body near where Gabby Petito’s was found on Sept. 28. He’s survived by two children ages 12 and 15.

“Bob has been a wonderful father, son, brother, and friend,” his family said in a statement in early October. “Our family wants to thank the news media and others involved in the search for our privacy at this difficult time.”

Officials also released a statement, talking about how the search for Petito created closure for this and other families.

“The widespread news coverage of the Gabby Petito search helped bring light to Lowery’s case, and resulted in at least two members of the public calling local authorities this past weekend with new information about his possible last seen point,” officials said in a statement.
