Former President Barack Obama is looking as fit as he did before he took office way back in the 2000s, even if he might be a little grayer on top.
The former president was recently seen living it up in Hawaii to start the new year. It seems as though he has moved his current interest away from the golf course and instead to the ocean for a little fun on a paddleboard. The activity looks like quite a workout too. As he tried his best to balance on the water, Obama wore a pair of dark-colored swim trunks.
Meanwhile, the 59-year-old was all smiles as he paddled his way through Kailua Bay’s crystal clear waters around 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Obama was paddle boarding on the island of O’ahu. Exclusive photos that were leaked show a Secret Service agent following close behind the former president in a kayak.
The Obama family has been known to travel to Hawaii every year. It’s there where they celebrate Christmas in the former president’s home state. People reported earlier this year that Obama was born in Hawaii and spent most of his boyhood growing up there.
There’s no doubt, however, that Barack Obama has some work to do before he becomes a professional paddleboarder.
Michelle Obama Discusses Holiday Vacation in Instagram Post
Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama also spent a few days before Christmas taking a kayaking trip. They were in the Aloha State in December at the Mid-Pacific Country Club in Kailua.
This year’s break for the Obama family comes after a turbulent year in the United States. Michelle Obama explained just that in an Instagram post last month.
“For me, the holidays have always been a chance to slow down and reflect. We’ve endured so much this past year, from the devastation of the pandemic to the ups and downs of a hard-won election,” she wrote in December. “But what has perhaps stayed with me most is the passionate message of justice and empathy that has defined the Black Lives Matter protests around the world.”
Michelle ended her post by saying she will pray for the people of the United States to be more understanding of each other’s circumstances in the years to come.
“I pray that in 2021, more of us will reach out to understand the experiences of those who don’t look, or vote, or think like we do. I pray that we learn to pause when we’re tempted to react in anger or suspicion,” Obama concluded in her post. “And I pray that we choose generosity and kindness over our worst impulses. That isn’t always easy. But it’s a place to start. And we have so many terrific examples in all of the folks who marched for what’s right this year. Thanks to you all. I’m so proud of you.”
