After mocking Melania Trump in a series of tweets, singer and actress Bette Midler now says that she was “wrong.” Midler, 74, went on Twitter to post a public apology after she was labeled a “racist.” Many on Twitter had a strong reaction to her apology.
“Woke up ill from all the snake oil poured down our throats last night at the #RNC. What’s the cure? #VoteBidenHarris2020,” Midler tweeted. She followed with another tweet, “Well, all hell has broken loose because I said Melania ‘still can’t speak English’ last night. I was wrong to make fun of her accent. America is made up people who speak with all kinds of accents, and they are all welcomed always.”
On Tuesday (August 25), Midler live-tweeted the Republican National Convention. In a series of tweets, she called Trump an “illegal alien” and made fun of her accent. ““A UGE bore! She can speak several words in a few languages. Get that illegal alien off the stage!” Midler said in a tweet. “Oh, God. She still can’t speak English.”
