Brian Laundrie’s Parents Led Authorities to Where His Belongings, Possible Remains Were Discovered

Just after the FBI announced they have discovered some of Brian Laundrie’s belongings, as well as unidentified human remains, the Laundrie family’s lawyer, Steven Bertolino has issued a statement about the latest development in the search.

In a statement to News Nation Now correspondent Brian Entin, Bertolino says, “Chris and Roberta Laundrie were at the reserve earlier today when human remains and some of Brian’s possessions were located in an area where they had initially advised law enforcement that Brian may be. Chris and Roberta will wait for the forensic identification of the human remains before making any additional comments.”

The discovery of the remains and belongings comes just a few weeks after Brian Laundrie’s father, Chris Laundrie, was asked by authorities to join in the search. Bertolino revealed at the time, “Since the preserve has been closed to the public, Chris has not been able to look for Brian in the only place Chris and Roberta believe Brian may be.”

Meanwhile, the FBI announced in a press conference on Wednesday (October 20th) that while the remains are human, there isn’t any word on if it is Brian Laundrie. “I know you have a lot of questions. But we don’t know all the answers yet,” FBI Tampa Division Special Agent in Charge, Michael McPherson, explained. He also confirmed that the area where the items were found had previously been underwater.

CNN reports that the Sarasota County Medical Examiner is on the scene where Brian Laundrie’s belonging and the human remains were. The Pasco County Sheriff’s office also confirmed that a cadaver dog and two spotters are also in the area.

Where is Brian Laundrie?

Brian Laundrie has been missing since mid-September. His parents last saw him before he went on a hike in the Carlton Reserve. Police questioned him about the disappearance of his girlfriend, Gabby Petito. Laundrie went on a road trip with Petito. But came back without her at the beginning of September. Authorities discovered Petito’s remains at the Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. Laundrie is a person of interest in Petito’s disappearance and death.

People have allegedly spotted Brian Laundrie in various states since the search began, including Tennessee and North Carolina. North Port police spokesperson Josh Taylor previously spoke to CNN about the search for the 23-year-old.

Chris Boyer, Executive Director for the nonprofit National Association for Search and Rescue, previously spoke to CNN about Laundrie’s search. “You’ve looked at this person’s behavior; you’ve tried to profile their skill set, and what they may have available to them in the way of resources. And you’ve tried to look at the most probable places they would be based on that.”

Boyer also shared that if Brian Laundrie was actually in the Carlton Reserve, he would have been found by now.
