Brian Laundrie Search: Major Attorneys Comment on How Fugitive’s Parents May Be Undercutting His Lawyer

After nearly one month of searching for Gabby Petito’s fiance, Brian Laundrie, attention has continued to be on the 23-year-old’s parents, as well as the Laundrie family lawyer, Steve Bertolino. Other attornies are now suggesting that the missing man’s relatives may actually be undercutting Bertolino.

During a recent interview with Fox News, Texas attorney Dick DeGuerin, whose clients have included David Koresh and Robert Durst, spoke out about the lawyer’s involvement in the case. “Nobody seems to know where he is, and that’s not a good situation for the lawyer to be in. Because the lawyer may be getting his marching orders from the parents and not from the actual client.”

Fox News reported Bertolino has indicted Brian Laundrie’s parents may not even be following the media coverage of the case. DeGuerin proclaimed, “I believe Brian is still in the preserve. And as such, I don’t think he has access to the news.”

Mark Geragos, a Los Angeles defense lawyer who has represented Scott Peterson, Michael Jackson, and the brother of former President Bill Clinton, also chimed in. He said Bertolino has a chance to control the narrative in the situation. “Presumably, he’s got more facts than we do. Presumably, he’s talked to his client. And he knows things that we may not know.”

Geragos does note Brian Laundrie’s attorney needs to be careful not to deliver contradictory details due to the massive attention on the case.

“This is one of those cases that I used to refer to as super-sized. It is going to become increasingly difficult to manage this.”

Brian Laundrie’s parents last saw him on September 13th. This was days after Gabby Petito’s parents filed a missing person’s report after they hadn’t heard from her since August 25th. Her body was recovered days after Laundrie disappeared.

Meanwhile, Brian Laundrie’s father, Chris Laundrie, has also joined in the search for the missing 23-year-old.  According to a statement, Chris Laundrie was asked to assist law enforcement in their search at the preserve.

“Since the preserve has been closed to the public, Chris has not been able to look for Brian in the only place Chris and Roberta believe Brian may be.”

The statement also noted that the North Port police had to postpone Chris Laundrie’s involvement. But both of Brian Laundrie’s parents are hopeful there will be another opportunity to assist.

A former FBI agent told Fox News that the FBI is now using Brian Laundrie’s father for a more targeted search. Ken Gray said, “The bureau, I think, learned some lessons from the search for Eric Rudolph. That is, you can spend lots and lots of resources to search an area and come up empty-handed.”
