Budweiser Announces It Will Offer Americans Free Beer, But There’s a Catch

Anheuser-Busch is on a mission to get more Americans vaccinated, and they’re giving away free Budweiser beer as an incentive. With all “free” offers though, including this one, there’s a bit of a catch.

The brewery is working in unison with the White House‘s campaign to encourage more people to get vaccinated. Free beer is contingent on 70% of American adults receiving at least their first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 61.5% of adults have had their first dose. If the nation crosses the 70% threshold by July 4, Americans will earn free beer from Budweiser.

On Wednesday, Anheuser-Busch CEO Michel Doukeris shared a press release about the “Let’s Grab a Beer” incentive. He called the campaign the “biggest beer giveaway in history.”

“At Anheuser-Busch, we are committed to supporting the safe and strong recovery of our nation and being able to be together again at the places and with the people we have missed so much. This commitment includes encouraging Americans to get vaccinated. And we are excited to buy Americans 21+ a round of beer when we reach the White House goal,” Doukeris said in the statement

The “Let’s Grab a Beer” campaign will allow Americans to choose from multiple Anheuser-Busch products. The giveaway will include Budweiser’s family of beers, hard seltzer, or their non-alcoholic beverages. More than 100 Anheuser-Busch products will be available to choose from in the giveaway. The company will follow the CDC’s data to determine if the giveaway goes forward after July 4.

But Wait, There’s Another Catch to Budweiser’s Free Beer Giveaway

There’s no guarantee that the nation will reach the 70% vaccinated threshold by Independence Day. So as nice as free beer sounds, you shouldn’t count on it just yet. 8.5% more of adult Americans still need to have their first shot. However, that won’t be your only obstacle to free Budweiser beer.

Although it may be the largest beer giveaway in history, that still doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get any. Budweiser drinkers still have to enter for a chance to win at MyCooler.com/beer. Additionally, you must submit a photo of yourself at your “favorite place to grab a beer.” The first 200,000 people to enter the giveaway will then be given a $5 pre-paid card for a beverage of their choice.

We’re not sure where the Anheuser-Busch CEO has been drinking, but good luck finding a round that cheap. For many consumers, it will be a tough task to find a Budweiser for only $5 these days. Nonetheless, it’s a nice gesture. In fact, other companies have created similar incentives around the COVID-19 vaccination.

Krispy Kreme has given away more than 1.5 million donuts to vaccinated customers since their incentive began in March. In addition, McDonald’s teamed up with the White House as well for their “We Can Do This” campaign. The fast-food company created new coffee cups and stickers that provided customers with vaccine information and locations.
