The popular fast-food restaurant, Burger King, has delighted many of its fans by finally offering a vegan version of their famous Chicken Royale. The new sandwich officially launched in stores in the UK earlier today.

The sandwich has been in development now for some time. In addition to attracting a lot of speculation, it has had the attention of the Vegan Society for years. BK is already calling it the “crowning glory” of the restaurant’s plant-based menu.

Ericka Durgahee, Marketing Manager at The Vegan Society, says that her company is excited to be working so close with Burger King.

“We’re delighted to be working closely with Burger King,” she said. “It’s fantastic to see that not only are they expanding their range to cater to vegan customers, but are going above and beyond by offering them delicious options that have been certified by the highly-trusted and sought-after Vegan Trademark.”

The home of the Whopper is also declaring that Mondays will now be “Meat Free Mondays.” That goes for everyone who uses the BK app nationwide. The official Burger King UK Instagram account posted a recent photo of their new creation.

“CALLING ALL VEGANS! Say hello to our brand-new Vegan Royale,” they wrote alongside a photo of the Vegan Royale.

How is the Burger King Vegan Royale Made?

When breaking down Burger King’s newest sandwich, you have to start with the meat — or lack thereof. The Vegan Royale is made of a crispy, coated plant-based chicken patty, designed by The Vegetarian Butcher. From there, the delightful sandwich is topped with crunchy iceberg lettuce, creamy vegan mayo, and it is all held in place by a toasted sesame seed bun.

Meanwhile, there are strict preparation processes in place. BK wants to ensure that the vegan items are completely separate from those that contain meat, dairy, and eggs. Soco Nunez, Marketing Director of Burger King UK, went as far as to say that the new vegan sandwich tastes just like the original.

“At Burger King UK we’re all about delivering great-tasting food for our customers. So, we’ve purposefully taken our time with the Vegan Royale to make sure it’s the best on the market. In fact, we would go as far as to say it’s an identical taste experience to the original Chicken Royale.”

Further, even the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) made sure to express their gratitude to Burger King.

“PETA applauds Burger King for offering its customers three flavorsome plant-based burgers. From bun to mayo and patty, all the ingredients in the new Plant-Based Whopper and Vegan Royale are completely animal-free. So, they’re sure to be a hit with UK’s growing number of vegans, vegetarians, and flexitarians.”
