Former President Barack Obama officially turned 60 years old back on Wednesday, August 7. And he’s been celebrating.
Despite turning 60 on Wednesday, he, friends and family are partying on Saturday, and it was a party for the ages. The day started off with Obama and his close friends hitting it off out on the Vineyard Club golf course. Two of those guys he was golfing with were Don Cheadle and the head coach of the Golden State Warriors, Steve Kerr.
As a matter of fact, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made her way to the party as well. She showed up on Saturday night in a private jet just as the party kicked off around 7 p.m. According to sources with the New York Post, Pelosi was picked up by members of the secret service before the paparazzi could get to her. Although, by arriving on Saturday, Pelosi was not able to make it to the pre-party on Friday. That little get-together went on for roughly four hours and there were a ton of celebrity guests there as well.
Saturday Night’s Party Was Supposed to Be Scaled Back
On Saturday night was when the real party started. There were so many VIP guests in attendance that it is kind of hard to keep track. In addition to Cheadle, Kerr, and Pelosi, some of them include Chrissy Teigen and John Legend, Bradley Cooper and his daughter Lea De Seine Shayk, Dwayne Wade, and Gabrielle Union, and many more. If you are interested in seeing some photos, the Post has more than the above that were leaked online.
Obama even said the party was scaled-down thanks to the Delta Variant spreading nearby. So, it’s hard to imagine how big it actually could have been. Evidently, it was supposed to have upwards of 475 guests and nearly 200 workers.
“Due to the spread of the Delta variant over the past week, the President and Mrs. Obama have decided to significantly scale back the event to include only family and close friends,” the president’s team said in a statement.
Some of the Locals Were Upset by Barack Obama’s Birthday Party
However, there have been some reports that have surfaced, TMZ being one of them, that locals were upset about President Barack Obama’s big party. But the Town Administrator for Edgartown, James Hagerty, said that it isn’t all that uncommon and that it’s actually a good thing for the local economy.
“Really, the president’s party is nothing we haven’t seen many times before,” Hagerty said. “We’re used to a lot of big events like this in the summer and it’s good for the economy. Most locals don’t mind”
Obama’s decision to scale things down a notch was probably a good idea. A source with The Post called the Barack Obama Party a “public health nightmare.”
