Coors Banquet Beer is raising money for wildland firefighters, and they’re starting with a $300,000 donation to get the campaign started, Whiskey Riff reports. The beer brand will donate the money to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation.

In a Facebook post, Coors added that they were selling a shirt to help raise money for the nonprofit organization.

“Help Wildland Firefighters by purchasing our limited edition “Protect Our West” T-shirt,” the post said. “Right now, Wildland Firefighters are courageously stepping forward into the flames, protecting the West at all costs. Let’s make sure we’ve got their backs and support them the best we can. We’re starting with a $300k donation. By buying a shirt you’re helping in our ongoing support with our long-time friends at the Wildland Firefighters Foundation. #ProtectOurWest

The “Protest Our West” shirts cost $21.99 with proceeds benefiting the foundation, Whiskey Riff said. The Wildland Firefighter Foundation supports injured and fallen wildland firefighters and their families.

Fires raging in West Coast

The New York Times reports wildfires this year have killed at least 40 people, destroyed more than 7,000 structures, and scorched more than 5 million acres in California, Oregon and Washington.

Dry weather and high winds have helped fuel those blazes, according to USA Today. Moreover, Calif. Gov. Gavin Newsom warned the Zogg Fire, which has burned more than 55,000 acres near Redding, Calif. and the August Complex Fire, which has burned nearly 1 million acres, could merge.

The August Complex Fire was 47% contained as of Thursday. The Zogg Fire was 26% contained, USA Today said.

Thousands of people remain under an evacuation order in California. Scientists blame climate change as the reason for the increase in wildfires each year, National Geographic said.

Coors Banquet has history of helping firefighters

Coors Banquet has worked to raise money for the Wildland Firefighter Foundation for several years. Last year, the brand partnered with Uproxx for a five-part docuseries on firefighters battling blazes on the West Coast.

According to the company, the series “takes viewers behind the fire line and catalogs the lives of smokejumpers, hotshots, aircrews and others as they take on some of the most dangerous conditions in nature to contain and extinguish wildfires.”

Coors Banquet has sponsored the Wildland Firefighter Foundation for seven years. The company donated more than $1.5 million to the group last year, the group said.
