Dog the Bounty Hunter Responds to Brian Laundrie Autopsy Results with Big ‘If’

Dog the Bounty Hunter relentlessly pursued Brian Laundrie when the nation believed he was hiding out in the wilderness of Florida. But after authorities found human remains near some of Laundrie’s belongings last month and identified the remains as his, Dog backed off the case.

On Tuesday, a month after authorities discovered the remains, the medical examiner reported that Brian Laundrie died by suicide, from a gunshot wound to the head. The Laundrie family lawyer, Steven Bertolino, informed several news outlets in a statement about the cause of death.

“Chris and Roberta Laundrie have been informed that the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head and the manner of death was suicide. Chris and Roberta are still mourning the loss of their son and are hopeful that these findings bring closure to both families,” Bertolino said.

But Dog the Bounty Hunter, whose real name is Duane Chapman, mentioned on a Fox News appearance Tuesday night that Laundrie might still be alive.

“If he’s alive he’s going to get arrested. But right now it looks like he committed suicide,” Dog said, according to The Sun. “And it’s a tragedy for both families.”

Viewers quickly picked up on the fact that Dog said “if he’s alive.” Implying that perhaps the remains don’t belong to Laundrie.

But Dog also said on Fox News that “professionals looked at [the remains]” and he “only chases live people, not dead.” Meaning, Dog’s not about to go looking for clues when for all intents and purposes, Brian Laundrie died. At this time, however, authorities have not said anything about the gun Laundrie supposedly used to kill himself.

Brian Laundrie Cause of Death Revealed, But Gabby Petito Case Remains Open

Despite knowing how Brian Laundrie died, authorities still have not closed Gabby Petito’s case. The 22-year-old van life vlogger died by manual strangulation in late August. Authorities discovered her body buried in Grand Teton National Park on Sept. 19.

At the time, she and Laundrie were road tripping across the country together. But he returned to his parents’ home in Florida without her on Sept. 1, and he went missing two weeks later. Police wanted to question Laundrie about his possible role in her death. But they never got a chance to speak with him. The authorities always named Laundrie a person of interest, not a suspect, in the case.

Although we know that Brian Laundrie died, it’s still unclear whether he had an explicit role in Gabby Petito’s death. Forensic specialists continue to try and save a waterlogged notebook found near Laundrie’s body. The authorities hope that the notebook will contain more information about what happened to Gabby. Or information about why Brian Laundrie killed himself.
