“I will be strongly demanding a Drug Test of Sleepy Joe Biden prior to, or after, the Debate on Tuesday night. Naturally, I will agree to take one also,” Trump tweeted. “His Debate performances have been record setting UNEVEN, to put it mildly. Only drugs could have caused this discrepancy???”
Biden began to respond when asked by reporters Sunday night but stopped himself, Politico reported. His campaign released a statement later.
“Vice President Biden intends to deliver his debate answers in words. If the president thinks his best case is made in urine he can have at it,” the statement said. “We’d expect nothing less from Donald Trump, who p*ssed away the chance to protect the lives of 200K Americans when he didn’t make a plan to stop COVID-19.”
Twitter reacts to comments
Social media exploded with reactions following the exchange. Many backed the president by posting videos of Biden making odd or incorrect statements. Some felt Biden was just outmatched.
Though, Biden supporters pointed out that attacks on gaffs and misinformation can go both ways.
Some pointed out that Trump was clearly making a joke and people shouldn’t take his comment so seriously. Though some posters felt Trump had gone too far.
Debate set for Tuesday
The two will face off Tuesday at 9 p.m. EST at Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Clinic in the first of three debates before the Nov. 3 election. Fox News’ Chris Wallace will moderate.
Biden currently holds a nearly 7 point lead in the polls, according to Real Clear Politics.
