Donald Trump Jr. and his girlfriend Kimberly Guilfoyle had planned to spend Friday campaigning in Texas. However, those plans fell by the wayside after news broke that President Trump tested positive for COVID-19 earlier on Friday morning.
The duo had intended to spend the afternoon at a luncheon at the Valencia Center in McAllen, Texas yesterday, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. It was a get-out-the-vote event.
But they decided to postpone the trip after a coronavirus scare hit the White House, including the President and the First Lady. Trump Jr. and Guilfoyle have worked closely with the president, the First Lady and Hope Hicks. All three came down with the virus.
“Of course we are all heartbroken that the event is postponed,” said Adrienne Peña-Garza, the Hidalgo County Republican Party chair, according to the Chronicle.
The event cost $50 per ticket and had already sold out, the Monitor reported. The Hidalgo County Republicans expected 250 guests to attend.
Donald Trump Jr. Event Now Rescheduled
Organizers stress that the now takes place at a different time and that they did not officially cancel it. And they said the rescheduled event may take place at a bigger venue. That would allow a bigger crowd to join.
Donald Trump Jr. and Guilfoyle both got tested for coronavirus on Friday. Their tests came back negative.
On Fox News Friday, Trump Jr. told Tucker Carlson that his father takes his coronavirus test result “seriously.” He said the president would continue working from Walter Reed hospital.
