A video of President Donald Trump from Thanksgiving 2018 is trending in which he says a turkey “refused to concede and demanded a recount.”

President Trump wished Americans a “Happy Thanksgiving” today at the National Thanksgiving Turkey Pardoning Ceremony. He and first lady Melania Trump celebrated the Thanksgiving holiday on Tuesday with the traditional pardoning of the national Thanksgiving turkey.

However, just two years ago during the annual turkey pardon in 2018, the 74-year-old Trump joked about one of the birds’ unwillingness to accept defeat, after the public voted for its rival.

Katherine Faulders, a White House reporter for ABC News, reminded her followers on Twitter of the ironic moment early this morning.

“A reminder of this from Trump at the turkey pardon last yr,” Faulders wrote on Twitter. “The winner of this vote was decided by a fair & open election conducted on the White House website. This was a fair election. Unfortunately Carrots refused to concede & demanded a recount & we are fighting w/ Carrots.”

A Moment of Irony for President Donald Trump

One video from the 2018 ceremony was trending online again recently. This comes in light of Trump’s antics following the results of the 2020 election. Users on social media have pointed out the similarities between what the president treated as a joke two years ago and what he has recently been trying to accomplish in light of the election. He wants to overturn the election based on allegations of fraud for which there has not been any proof.

The video has nearly 2 million views as of Tuesday evening.

In fact, just nine days ago Trump sent out a tweet stating the the 2020 presidential election was rigged.

“I concede NOTHING! We have a long way to go. This was a RIGGED ELECTION!” Trump tweeted on November 15.

President-elect Joe Biden, 78, called Trump’s resistance “embarrassing.” He has urged Trump to cooperate in a smooth transition of power amid the COVID-19 pandemic while the government prepares for the rollout of a vaccine.

“More people may die if we don’t coordinate,” the former vice president warned in a recent press conference.

“And so it’s important that it be done — that there be coordination now,” Biden said. “Now, or as rapidly as we can get that done.”
