On Friday, Eddie Van Halen’s son, Wolfgang, continued to post photos in remembrance of his late father as he shared a black-and-white picture from his childhood.

Since Eddie’s death on Tuesday, Wolf Van Halen has shared multiple tender memories from throughout their life together as father and son. The Instagram post captured Eddie lovingly giving his young son a kiss while he read him the children’s book More Bugs in Boxes by David A. Carter.

The legendary guitarist’s son and Wolf’s mom – Eddie’s ex-wife and actress Valerie Bertinelli – have both shared a handful of old photos in the wake of his death.

Eddie, 65, passed away after fighting a battle with throat cancer that lasted years. Wolf posted on social media sharing the sad news as his father passed.

“I can’t believe I’m having to write this, but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, has lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning. He was the best father I could ever ask for,” a grieving Wolf wrote. “Every moment I’ve shared with him on and off stage was a gift. My heart is broken and I don’t think I’ll ever fully recover from this loss. I love you so much, Pop.”

Eddie Van Halen and His Son’s Special Relationship

A source close to Eddie spoke to PEOPLE after the musician’s death about the father and his son’s relationship.

“He and Wolfie were incredibly close,” the source said. “It’s a huge loss to his son in particular because they were so tight.”

In fact, the duo wasn’t just close as a family, but as band members as well. Eddie passed on his musicianship to his son as the two jammed together early on in Wolfgang’s life. The younger Van Halen was so talented he even joined Van Halen as the band’s bassist in 2006 – at the young age of 15.

On Thursday, Wolf’s mom Bertinelli also shared some throwback photos of herself with her late ex-husband on her Instagram story. The photos followed the actress’s heartfelt tribute to the famous rocker.

“40 years ago my life changed forever when I met you,” she wrote in a post on Tuesday. “You gave me the one true light in my life, our son, Wolfgang.”

“Through all your challenging treatments for lung cancer, you kept your gorgeous spirit and that impish grin,” Bertinelli said. “I’m so grateful Wolfie and I were able to hold you in your last moments. I will see you in our next life my love.”
