Eddie Van Halen’s brother Alex mourned the loss of his younger brother. The legendary guitarist passed away on Oct. 6 following a battle with cancer. Now, Alex wrote a message to his late brother.
“Hey Ed – Love you,” Alex Van Halen wrote in a statement to Fox News. According to the outlet, the note included a childhood photo of the siblings. “See you on the other side. Your brother, Al.”
Eddie and Alex Van Halen formed the band Van Halen in 1972, with Eddie on the guitar and Alex on drums. Eddie became known as one of the most influential guitarists of all time. The brothers performed for decades in the band, producing No. 1 hits and multi-platinum albums. They toured together as recently as in 2015.
In Eddie Van Halen’s last Instagram post, on May 8, he celebrated his brother Alex’s 67th birthday.
“Happy birthday Al!!” Eddie wrote. “Love ya!!”
Eddie Van Halen passed away at a Santa Monica, California hospital. His brother, Alex, as well as his son, Wolfgang, and wife Janie were by his side.
Eddie Van Halen’s son Wolfgang penned a tribute to him.
Van Halen’s son Wolfgang mourned his father in a touching social media post. Wolfgang shared his father’s passing and how heartbroken he felt. In 2006, Wolfgang joined the band Van Halen as its bassist, touring with his father and uncle.
“I can’t believe I’m having to write this, but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, has lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning,” he wrote. “He was the best father I could ever ask for. Every moment I’ve shared with him on and off stage was a gift. My heart is broken and I don’t think I’ll ever fully recover from this loss. I love you so much, Pop.”
Van Halen was 65 years old at the time of his death.
