Fast Food Restaurants Including Chick-fil-A Plan To Speed Up Orders with New Technology

Chick-fil-A has its drive-thru down pat. That’s why we can get the nuggets, waffle fries and at least a couple of sauces, while not spending too much time dawdling in line. You are in and out and going about your day without too much wait time.

But some of the top fast-food restaurants out there are looking at a different approach to your drive-thru experience so that they can make more money. That’s what it’s all about anyway. Efficiency equals money.

So maybe one day Chick-fil-A or McDonalds or any host of other really fast outlets will use a new technology called “Fly thru, Drive Thru” created by AdvanTech.

The company already has a commercial on the service. You can check it out below, then stick around for some more details.

In the Future, You May Need Decal on Windshield to Order From Places Like Chick-fil-A

So you can see from the video that “Fly Thru, Drive Thru” views ordering your nuggets and waffle fries as a toll-booth experience. To make this work, customers need to use a fast-food kind of toll tag stuck to your windshield. And we’re thinking that each drive-thru you frequent would need a different decal. So if you like a lot of places, your windshield will fill up quickly. How would that look?

And what’s that decal for, you might ask? It has the details of your normal order encrypted. Some computer scanner will know you order nuggets, waffle fries and Chick-fil-A sauce every time you visit the restaurant. Apparently, we Americans are creatures of habit when we order food. We order the exact same thing every time, or so says the restaurant analytics. And we know everything in the country is overanalyzed for trends to create better efficiency.

According to AdvanTech, the new decals with your encrypted details speed up drive-thru service by 40 percent and could increase sales by up to 20%.

Other restaurants are trying out crazy ideas in the name of efficiency. Did you see where McDonald’s is testing AI for its drive-thru? Why use humans to take your order when you have a robot that doesn’t require a paycheck? McDonald’s is using some of its restaurants in Chicago to see how this new technology works and how customers are responding to it. So far, the robot is 85 percent accurate. But when it comes to quarter pounders with cheese, do you want 15 percent mistakes?

But as we know, fast food restaurants like Chick-fil-A, McDonald’s, Taco Bell and Panera are about as American as you can get. During the COVID-19 pandemic, drive-thrus became even more important to keep people from getting sick. These days, because of staffing issues, some chains are closing their indoor dining rooms, leaving open only the drive-thru. Chick-fil-A did this to some locations this summer.

We love to watch a good football game then stop by somewhere for a cheeseburger and fries, maybe pizza or Tex-Mex. And if Chick-fil-A still is open, then yes, more nuggets and waffle fries.

And because of analytics, you can actually track the favorite fast-food spots for a post-football celebration. Or, you have a favorite spot to eat your feelings because the kicker missed the field goal.

Here are the spots, by state. Enjoy.
