Absolutely gut-wrenching. On Sunday, the FBI announced that the body found in Wyoming’s Grand Teton is likely to be Gabrielle “Gabby” Petito. The 22-year-old woman has been missing since September 11. Her actual disappearance, however, is likely to have occurred in late August.
The FBI cautions that they are not yet 100% on the identity of the human remains. Officials plan to have DNA testing results Sunday. At the moment, however, the investigation is still ongoing.
The FBI, Wyoming Police, and Grand Teton National Park rangers continue to arrive on the scene in Moran Vista camping area. The campground is where the search for Gabby Petito led to authorities discovering a body.
While details are sparse, the remains are in such condition that officials are unable to physically ID. The FBI believes it is likely to be Petito, however, as the body is “consistent” with her description.
“BREAKING: FBI says human remains found in Wyoming likely #GabbyPetito,” posts Fox News to Twitter Sunday at 6:15 PM ET.
Gabby Petito’s Survival “Unlikely” Says Wyoming Residents
Before the body’s discovery, Wyoming locals would tell FOX News that it is “unlikely” that Gabby Petito could survive for three weeks in the area. Through September, temperatures drop below freezing at night. This, alongside dangerous wildlife in the area, make survival near-impossible without professional gear and/or assistance.
As the world hangs in the balance waiting for any answers for Gabby, her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, remains “missing” in Florida’s Carlton Reserve. Laundrie would leave his home for the wilderness after a week of no cooperation with authorities. He remains a person of interest in the case.
At 4:02 PM Sunday, the FBI’s Denver branch would post an update citing that their “law enforcement partners will provide an update in the investigation into Gabrielle “Gabby” Petito’s disappearance at 4:00 PM MDT at the Craig Thomas Discovery and Visitor Center in Grand Teton National Park.”
Outsider will have further details when they become available. Our hearts are with all of Gabby Petito’s loved ones, and our fellow Outsiders who have been following the case.
