It’s a story we all dream about but know the likelihood is slim – you win a million bucks, quit your day job and spend the rest of your days traveling around the world with a mojito in hand. Sound too good to be true? Well, maybe not. One extremely lucky Florida man found himself a big-time winner.
Brian Woodle was casually strolling home from work when he decided to stop into a Circle K convenience shop in Callahan, Florida, according to the Associated Press. He was just picking up a few things before turning in for the night. One of those things was a $5 scratch-off ticket. As it turns out, the small scratch-off was worth way more than he bargained for.
Moreover, the 46-year-old man and his wife had just opened up an auto shop that same day. It had been a dream of Woodle’s and he was finally doing it. Albeit now, the man can pursue his dream with a little extras cushion.
“I love working on vehicles and it has always been my dream to own my own repair shop,” Woodle said in a news release sent by the Florida Lottery. “At the end of our first day, I stopped by Circle K to get a few things and picked up a Lottery ticket; just like that we won a million bucks!”
Opting to take the one-time lump sum of cash, Woodle can now call himself a millionaire. Well, almost. The total take-home sum equated to $880,000 after taxes, but that’s more money than most could ever dream about.
There are currently 11 states where lottery winners can remain anonymous. Among them are Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, and Texas. All residents in other states must come forward.
Here’s hoping Woodle the best of luck with his newfound fortune!
Lottery Winner Scores $1 Billion
Earlier this year, a billion-dollar winner of the Mega Millions was announced in Michigan. The lucky winner scored a life-changing billion dollars. Though the actual sum will be much lower, the amount of money is enough to change several lives forever.
Coming in at $739.6 million, the winner opted to take the lump sum of cash. The winner remained anonymous at the time, though will eventually have to disclose their identity.
The winning ticket was purchased at a Kroger about 30 minutes outside of Detroit. Michigan now has a total of 18 Mega Millions winning tickets.
The largest lottery prize ever awarded on a single ticket happed on Oct. 23, 2018. The South Carolina resident won $1.537 billion.
