Authorities have been searching for Brian Laundrie for weeks now due to him being a person of interest in the Gabby Petito case. After reviewing surveillance footage from the edge of his property, a Florida man thinks he may have spotted Laundrie.
TMZ exclusively acquired the video in question early this morning. In it, we see a man riding unsteadily on a path on a bike before eventually stopping and dragging it off-camera and out of view. The outlet speculates this may be intentional, as to avoid being seen in public places.
The witness told TMZ his surveillance camera captured this footage on October 9 in Dunnellon, Florida. The man’s property spans several acres of rural land. Notably, Dunnellon is a small town of only around 2,000 people. The property lies a mere three hours north of North Port, where Laundrie and his family live.
TMZ also states the FBI received the video for review, as the property owner felt the resemblance to Laundrie was enough to warrant submitting it. Nevertheless, this isn’t the first time something like this has happened and nothing came from previous footage, so time will tell if it actually was Laundrie.
Gabby Petito’s Mom Speaks Out About Brian Laundrie
Gabby Petito’s mother stated she initially liked Brian Laundrie and gave the young couple her blessing before their trip. Understandably, after viewing police bodycam footage involving her daughter and the press against Laundrie, she recently spoke about how her outlook has changed.
Appearing with 60 Minutes Australia, Nicole Schmidt talked about her daughter’s final days and lamented how things came to be. Saying she liked Laundrie and that he was a “nice guy,” she now calls him a “coward.” The couple first set off on a four-month trip aiming to visit national parks across the country. Thinking her daughter would be safe with him, the two’s trip excited her at first. “I felt safe because she was with Brian, and I felt like she would be OK. I thought he would take care of her.”
The journey started out well enough, with the pair updating Schmidt with their progress. “I loved getting the updates and was in awe with what she was doing. It was just amazing,” Schmidt told the show.
However, that mentality soon changed. She stopped receiving texts, calls, and social media updates from Petito. Further, Laundrie returned home without her and didn’t return Schmidt’s messages or calls about her missing daughter. Then Petito’s body was found buried in the Grand Teton National Park a week after she was reported missing and Laundrie was soon named a person of interest.
So, how does Schmidt currently feel? Now, “I want to get him in a cell for the rest of his life,” she states.
