It’s official. The worst possible outcome in the Gabby Petito case has come true — the human remains found in Wyoming were indeed those of the 22-year-old and her death is now being ruled a homicide.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Teton County coroner officially confirmed that the body found at a Wyoming campground are those of Gabby Petito. There has been no official cause of death listed until the final autopsy results are in, but the FBI has ruled the case as a homicide.

“BREAKING NEWS: FBI confirms the human remains found in Wyoming are Gabby Petito,” a correspondent for CNBC tweeted. “Rules her death a homicide but the manner of death (how she was killed hasn’t been determined.”

Gabby’s remains were located on Sunday at a campground in Bridger-Teton National Forest. That’s closeby to Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. Petito, along with her fiance, Brian Laundrie, had been on a cross-country road trip. And the two were last known to be in the national park late last month. But ever since then, she stopped communicating with her family.

America Has Been Following the Gabby Petito Case

There’s no question that the entire country has been following this case very closely. The death of a 22-year-old girl with her entire life in front of her — it just hits close to home for far too many of us. But no more than the family of Gabby Petito.

With this new piece of news hitting the airwaves, people on social media are now calling for law enforcement to catch whoever did this.

“Gabby Petito identified.. manner of death shows homicide. This is so sad for her friends and family,” one person wrote on Twitter.

As it currently stands, the FBI has listed Gabby Petito’s fiance, Brian Laundrie as a person of interest. However, they do not know his whereabouts. The 23-year-old initially refused to cooperate with the police before disappearing altogether. Laundrie’s family told law enforcement investigators that he went to the Carlton Reserve last Tuesday to go hiking but he never returned.

The common sentiment across those on social media is that Laundrie either killed Petito, or he knows something and is refusing to speak up. The FBI executed a search of Laundrie’s parents’ home in Florida where he and Gabby had been living prior to their trip.

“Now it’s time to prioritize catching the boyfriend who killed her,” another person speculated.

“We knew. But it’s now official,” tweeted another user. “Homicide of Gaby Petito.”

And like all of us, so many people are pouring their hearts out to the Petito family.

“The coroner just announced that the body they found was indeed #GabbyPetito,” another follower said. “My heart is breaking for the #Petito family #ripgabbypetito #justiceforgabby”
