A recent New York Post report suggests that Gabby Petito’s boyfriend, the prime suspect in her death, Brian Laundrie, is “well-versed” in surviving in the wild.

The 23-year-old is the main person of interest in the disappearance of Petito. On Sunday, authorities found her body in Grand Teton National Park, one of the many stops the couple made on their cross-country road trip in recent months.

On September 1, Laundrie returned to his Florida home in Gabby Petito’s van without his girlfriend. Further, the young man went missing after Laundrie told his parents that he was going hiking in the Carlton Reserve. The FBI and other local agencies began a massive manhunt for him on Saturday. However, authorities haven’t uncovered anything of importance on the 25,000-acre nature reserve since the search began.

As the FBI-led search continues to track down Laundrie’s whereabouts, the NY Post recently spoke to his former co-worker. According to the co-worker, he could be tough to track down. They say he has experience with survival techniques, including living off of only crackers for weeks at a time.

“In conversation about hiking … Brian talked about the longest time that he spent in the woods was 6 weeks,” the co-worker told the NY Post. “And [Laundrie] bragged about only having a large pack of either cheese or peanut butter crackers to sustain him for that time.”

“He is well-versed in spending a long time in the woods and living off nearly nothing,” they added.

Gabby Petito’s Boyfriend May Have Lied About Hiking Carlton Reserve

Eight days after Brian Laundrie went missing, officials aren’t ruling out the possibility that he may have lied about going hiking in Florida’s Carlton Reserve. He supposedly went hiking on September 14th, but his parents didn’t report him as missing until September 17th.

Law enforcement recently stated that he could be almost anywhere in the nation by now. National Association for Search and Rescue executive director Chris Boyer spoke about the ongoing search for Gabby Petito’s boyfriend.

“People that are trying not to get caught for something sometimes use people, right? So he may have told his parents that’s where he’s going,” Boyer said, according to the NY Post.

Since the beginning of the investigation, Laundrie’s parents have remained mostly silent about their son. Yet Brian may have used his parents and kept them in the dark about his actual plans.

“[Laundrie’s parents] may be telling the authorities that in all honesty, but he lied to them,” Boyer added. “He may not even be in Florida.”

As of Thursday, authorities are still looking for any possible clues that may lead them to Laundrie. Also, whether they meant to or not, Laundrie’s parents may have further complicated the investigation by their delay. Only time will tell as authorities exhaust all possibilities in their search.
