Gabby Petito Case: Brian Laundrie’s Friend Said He Was a ‘Social Outcast’ in High School

by Samantha Whidden

As the search for Gabby Petito’s fiancé Brian Laundrie continues, a friend of Laundrie is now revealing more details about the 23-year-old’s personality growing up.

During an interview with The Sun, the undisclosed long-time friend revealed that Gabby Petito’s fiancé was actually 40 pounds heavier when he was a teenager. Laundrie was also considered a “social outcast.”

The friend also stated that over the past two years, Laundrie has been the most public and open he has ever been. He also wasn’t into social media or posting videos until he started dating Gabby Petito.

“He’s a pretty disconnected off-the-grid type of guy, not the ‘selfie’ type,” the friend said about Gabby Petito’s fiancé. “He’s the type of person that would be able to drop everything to secure his means of not being captured and to evade arrest or evade prosecution from what seems to be a pending crime.”

Gabby Petito’s fiancé also had “zero friends” in middle school and would sit at the lunch table with two other people, the friend noted. The friend and Laundrie were friendly but did not become friends until high school. “Brian was very quiet in school. He was a bit of an outcast when he was younger. He was just so to himself. Brian cut his hair and lost weight in high school.”

According to the friend, Brian Laundrie has four close friends. The friend stated they have a gut feeling the 23-year-old will reach out for help. “The reason it would be me is his other very close friends were also very close with Gabby. But I was just very close with him,” the friend declared. They also said that Laundrie might not think they would hold some “stigma” or they wouldn’t care about the situation.

“I get calls from unknown numbers and from blocked callers and my heart drops,” the friend goes on to add. “I just think it’s gonna be him on the other side.”

Friend of Brian Laundrie Reveals the 23-Year-Old’s Interest in Guns

Along with describing Brian Laundrie’s personality growing up, the friend of Gabby Petito’s missing fiancé also stated that the 23-year-old had a keen interest in guns. The friend also found it weird that Laundrie wanted to move from New York to Florida.

“A lot of my friends have guns and stuff,” Laundrie’s friend said. “The gun laws in Florida were a lot less restrictive than New York, so it was interesting for him to move to another state that allowed that.”

Another Friend Close to Gabby Petito’s Fiance Stated to Never See a Dark Side With Him

Ben Matula, a friend of Laundrie, previously spoke to People about Laundrie’s relationship with Gabby Petito. “It seemed like an immature love. One minute, they’d be all over each other. The next minute, he’d be like, ‘We’re fighting.’ They always had some drama.”

Despite the typical young love dramatics, Matula said he didn’t expect the relationship to ever turn violent. “Before this, I thought Brian was a dependable, ambitious normal guy who wanted to be a good friend. I didn’t see a dark side with him.”
