The Gabby Petito case is all but closed. Brian Laundrie was the only person of interest in her murder and he’s reportedly dead. As a result, the millions of people who were hoping for answers are left with more questions. As usual, a lack of information has led some to fill the gaps with conspiracy and conjecture. Some even go so far as to ignore the available information in lieu of intriguing but ill-informed statements.

Yesterday, The Sun reported that Brian Laundrie’s “longtime pal” told them that he believes Chris and Roberta Laundrie cut a deal to keep themselves out of jail. He says they made some secret deal with either the FBI or the DA for immunity in the Gabby Petito case. Unsurprisingly, this tipster asked to remain anonymous. Additionally, they received their information “from someone how knows Laundrie’s family and is a close friend of [Chris and Roberta].”

This anonymous tipster said that Brian Laundrie’s parents probably had to “provide the necessary evidence to close the case” in exchange for “immunity for all charges of harboring, assisting, or whatever it might be.”

This anonymous tipster wasn’t the only one to claim that Brian Laundrie’s grieving parents cut a deal with the authorities. In fact, that has been a prevailing theory among internet sleuths and armchair detectives since they found Brian’s remains.

Zero Evidence that Brian Laundrie’s Parents Cut a Deal

The tipster and the would-be detectives are basing their claims on no evidence. In fact, it seems that they are willfully ignoring some of the available information in order to formulate this particular conspiracy.

Most of this hinges on the claim that Chris Laundrie led investigators “straight to” Brian’s remains. The thing is, he told authorities where he thought his son would be early in the investigation. Mr. Laundrie assumed his son would be there because it was one of his favorite places in the reserve.  However, that area was under a few feet of floodwater until right before they found the skeletal remains. So, there was no real way for the Laundries or anyone else, for that matter, to really search that area until the water receded.

Furthermore, Steven Bertolino, the Laundrie family attorney, stated that Brian’s parents didn’t cut a deal.

In the end, there are a few indisputable facts in this this case. Gabby Petito was murdered and Brian Laundrie is dead. Their deaths captivated the minds and imaginations of millions. Through Joe Petito’s efforts, the case brought attention to other missing persons cases as well as domestic violence. Most importantly, though, the deaths of Gabby and Brian left two sets of parents shattered and in mourning. No amount of posthumous evidence or wild conspiracy theories will do anything to change that.
