As the nationwide search for Brian Laundrie continues in the Gabby Petito case, his family is holding out hope that he is still okay.

The manhunt for 23-year-old Brian Laundrie has been the focus of law enforcement authorities for nearly a month now. The search heated up after his fiancee Gabby Petito reportedly went missing. Not long after that, her body was found in a Wyoming campground and authorities declared her death a homicide. There still has been no cause of death.

Laundrie, who was last seen with Petito, is now a person of interest in the case. However, no one knows where Brian Laundrie is. His last known interaction with police happened during an August 12 traffic stop in Moab, Utah. Petito was clearly visibly distraught.

We learned that a couple of weeks after that run-in with the police, he went back home to Florida in Petito’s van, but Gabby was not with him. And after initially refusing to cooperate with the police, Laundrie has now disappeared altogether. His family spoke to investigators telling them that he went to the Carlton Reserve last Tuesday to go hiking. But he never returned home.

The Laundrie family attorney, Steve Bertolino, recently spoke to People Magazine. He said that the Laundrie family is concerned for their son and that they believe he is still somewhere in Florida

“They are concerned,” Bertolino said. “But hopeful that he is found alive.”

Sister of Brian Laundrie Speaks Out in Gabby Petito Case

Now that the body of Gabby Petito has been discovered and her death ruled a homicide, law enforcement wants nothing more than to find Brian Laundrie and question him about what he knows.

As a result, the FBI has been working diligently to try and piece together Laundrie’s every move since returning back home to Florida. That includes looking into a family camping trip back on September 6 and 7. They also know that Laundrie went out and bought a new phone after Petito first went missing.

Another item in question is Brian Laundrie’s last contact with his sister, Cassie. The family lawyer confirmed that she was also at the campground with the family on September 6. Bertolino said that Cassie and Brian saw each other twice after he returned home — once on the 1st and once on the 6th. Despite this, she told Good Morning America on September 17 that she hasn’t heard from her brother.

“I haven’t been able to talk to him. I wish I could talk to him.”

Bertolino promptly stepped in to explain the time discrepancy.

“Law enforcement agencies are well aware of these dates. Any prior communication by Cassie that does not reflect these dates is simply a difference of relating an answer to a question misinterpreted by Cassie or poorly posed by the inquirer.”
