Days keep passing without the release of a cause of death in Gabby Petito’s homicide. Brian Laundrie also remains at large somewhere unbeknownst to authorities. These are true facts, sure, but some other updates have come about as well. Most recently, a hiker went public saying he had “no doubt” that he ran into Laundrie along the Appalachian Trail. Now, Dog the Bounty Hunter was credited with this location’s lead in the past. The FBI plans to meet with the man to corroborate the story, but for now, the De Soto and Carlton Reserve searches continue.
Actually, authorities have even implored Brian’s parents– at least his father– to assist with the search in Florida. Despite their allegedly estranged family dynamics, Brian’s sister, Cassie, is also voicing her thoughts to the public. She maintains that Brian is a “mediocre survivalist.” Knowing all that, officials might have actually stumbled on a major clue in the reserve. Police allegedly found a “fresh campsite” and it leads them to wonder: Could this mean Brian Laundrie is close by? We are nearing the month-mark since he was last seen after Gabby Petito’s initial disappearance and then homicide.
Updates to the Search for Brian Laundrie Who Is Still A Person of Interest in the Gabby Petito Case
CNN reports that officials did indeed find evidence of human activity within the massive almost-25,000-acre Carlton Reserve. While they didn’t provide any details about the campsite in question, its presence alone is strange. Officials shut down the reserve to the public at the start of their search, meaning any traces of any human activity are deemed unusual and need to be investigated. This information all comes from an anonymous source, reportedly close to the Laundrie family. They relayed what they knew to CNN.
The anonymous source also spoke about the involvement of Brian’s father in the search. Supposedly, his brief involvement is what actually led to the area where the campsite was discovered. The source then detailed that, upon its finding, officials asked Brian’s father to step back so they could pursue the lead alone.
The Laundrie family attorney, Steven Bertolino, made statements along these lines as well. In response, a North Port Police Department spokesman said the NPPD doesn’t actually make those decisions. Now that the FBI has full jurisdiction, only they can make that call.
Hopefully, this is a step in the right direction to getting some answers to Gabby Petito’s family. Although, some experts aren’t too sure on that front and actually expect the search to drag on much longer. The public remains frustrated and even former fugitives have gone public to ask Brian Laundrie to turn himself in.
