In an exclusive interview with Dr. Phil today, Gabby Petito’s family lawyer revealed that her boyfriend Brian Laundrie is on the run after stealing her credit card.
Laundrie is considered the main person of interest in Petito’s recent disappearance and death. The couple went on a cross-country van tour of America’s national parks in recent months. However, Laundrie took her van and abruptly drove home to Florida without Petito in tow. After weeks of speculation, officials finally found Gabby’s body in Grand Teton National Park on Sept. 19.
Authorities reported that Brian Laundrie stole his girlfriend’s credit card to use her money to travel home. Petito family lawyer and spokesperson, Richard Stafford, confirmed to Dr. Phil that Laundrie “ran from the police” after returning to Florida with her card and van.
The FBI issued a warrant for Laundrie’s arrest on Sept. 23, but not for the murder of Gabby Petito. Instead, they issued the warrant accusing him of bank card fraud. During Dr. Phil’s 30-minute interview, the Petito family lawyer finally confirmed that Petito’s card had been used by Laundrie. He withdrew over $1,000 between Aug. 30 and Sept. 1 while driving to Florida.
“He used her credit card to get home and then ran from the police,” Stafford explained. “That’s going to show a lot about what he was thinking back then.”
“I don’t know what story he’s going to try to tell,” the Petito spokesperson added later. “But it’s not going to make any sense when you put it together with his actions from that moment forward – that he’s running, that he’s hiding, that he’s trying to deceive everybody around him.”
Gabby Petito’s Dad Asks Media To Cover All Missing People Cases Equally
Today, Gabby Petito’s parents gave their first joint interview together since the disappearance of their daughter. Last week though, the 22-year-old’s father, Joseph Petito, requested that the media cover all missing person cases equally.
The Petito case has captured America’s attention for weeks now. The ongoing investigation into her death has made headlines across the nation. Almost every news outlet has covered the developing story since it made waves in early September.
Last Tuesday, Gabby Petito’s dad spoke with reporters. He thanked them for their work and also thanked social media for highlighting his daughter’s case. But he wants all missing people to be treated with the same amount of attention that has been given to his own daughter.
“I want to ask everyone to help all the people that are missing and need help. It’s on all of you, everyone that’s in this room to do that,” he said to reporters, according to ABC News. “And if you don’t do that for other people that are missing, that’s a shame, because it’s not just Gabby that deserves it.”
