Since receiving news of her homicide, Gabby Petito’s family continues to show an incredible amount of poise and grace as they begin their process of grieving. They’ve heard the public’s cries concerning coverage of missing persons cases and they decided that “this doesn’t end with Gabby.” To that end, the Petitos announced the creation of the Gabby Petito Foundation, which continues to grow and take shape each day. This story has all the latest details about the foundation as well as a heartfelt message from Gabby’s father, Joseph, for the outpouring of support they’ve seen.
The Gabby Petito Foundation’s Latest Updates
The website for the Gabby Petito Foundation is officially live, although the actual foundation still requires some more work on the back-end to bring it to official 501(c)(3) status. The site mentions that the purposes of the foundation revolve around charity, support, and education. More specifically, their current mission statement addresses both missing persons and domestic violence.
“The mission of the foundation is to address the needs of organizations who support locating missing persons and to provide aid to organizations who assist victims of domestic violence situations, through education, awareness, and prevention strategies. We wish to turn our personal tragedy into a positive. It is our hope that Gabby’s foundation will bring these important issues into the forefront of the public eye to the benefit of all our communities.”
The founding board members include both biological and step-parents of Gabby (Joseph & Tara Petito and James & Nichole Schmidt) as well as Rick Stafford and Gary Rider. Joseph Petito, her father, remains the unofficial spokesperson for the family. He keeps an active social media presence and continues to thank the public for all their support. The Family Says Goodbye to their “Gram” Ahead of Her Birthday
Gabby Petito’s step-father, Jim, also joined Twitter to converse with the public. His latest tweet remembers “Grandma Dot” who passed away days before her 100th birthday. Unfortunately, she learned about Gabby’s tragic fate before her passing and before Jim got the chance to discuss it with her. The family remembers her as one of the “strongest and sweetest” women they knew.
Yesterday would have been your 100th birthday. You passed away and moved on just 3 days short of that milestone. It was painful for me to hear that you knew about what happened to Gabby and we didn’t get a chance to talk about it.
