Gabby Petito’s Parents Retrieve Her Ashes in Heartbreaking Photo

The parents of slain 22-year-old Gabby Petito traveled to Wyoming on Wednesday to retrieve their daughter’s ashes and bring them back home to New York.

Authorities made the discovery of Gabby Petito’s body back on September 19 at the Spread Creek Dispersed Camping Area in Bridger-Teton National Forest. Dr. Brent Blue, the Teton County Coroner, originally ruled the Long Island native’s death a homicide. However, on Tuesday, it was revealed that Petito died by “manual strangulation.”

Blue said that he actually made the strangulation determination back on October 5. But he waited until Tuesday’s press conference to release the results. After that, Petito’s body got released to Valley Mortuary in Jackson for cremation. That’s where Gabby’s parents were heading when they flew into the state.

The unimaginable grief was all over the faces of Petito’s parents as they came out of the Valley Mortuary on Saturday morning. In photos obtained by the Daily Mail, Gabby’s mom, Nichole, looked extremely upset. And as for Gabby’s dad, Joe, he walked out holding the white box containing his daughter’s ashes close to his chest. The remains of the blonde-haired, blue-eyed 22-year-old will now be brought home to Long Island, New York, for burial.

People on Social Media Blast News for Invading Privacy of Gabby Petito’s Parents

As you can imagine, this has been an emotional time for the family of Gabby Petito. But it’s also been a rollercoaster for the entire nation.

In such a high-profile case like this one, there is usually very little privacy for the families. It’s unfortunate, but that’s the nature of the business. People on social media were extremely critical of the news outlet which captured photos of the grieving parents picking up their daughter’s ashes.

“Omg do people really need to be recording them picking up their daughter, so insensitive,” one person commented. “These people are grieving and everyone wants to make a news article. I’m so sad.”

“A little privacy and respect would have been appreciated I’m sure,” responded another user.

“Aren’t there other missing girls media needs to cover?”

All the while, the nation is still on the lookout for Gabby Petito’s missing fiance, Brian Laundrie. He has officially under consideration as a person of interest in the case. But with that said, the Laundrie family attorney, Steven Bertolino, has insisted that Brian is not a suspect in Petito’s disappearance or death.

“Gabby Petito’s death at such a young age is a tragedy,” Bertolino said in a statement. “While Brian Laundrie is currently charged with the unauthorized use of a debit card belonging to Gabby, Brian is only considered a person of interest in relation to Gabby Petito’s demise. At this time Brian is still missing. And when he is located we will address the pending fraud charge against him.”
