There was a shooting in Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. There were up to eight people shot, however, the number is not yet verified.
According to CBS Chicago, the incident began just before 3 p.m. on Friday. Multiple people were shot. Police have ordered people in the building to shelter in place. Surrounding areas were also put on lockdown as FBI and heavily-armed police officers deal with the situation.
The situation is still very active. There are no clear answers for what exactly has happened inside the mall. The suspect is still “at large,” according to the mayor.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office has not yet gone to the scene which ABC 7 claims means no one has been killed.
Wisconsin Shooter Incidents
The Mayfair Mall has been the location of another very recent shooting as well.
“The Mayfair Mall was the site of a February shooting in which a city police officer, Joseph Mensah, shot and killed Alvin Cole, a Black 17-year-old. Police said Cole was fleeing from police; Mensah, who is also Black, said he shot Cole because Cole pointed a gun at him. The mall was the target of sporadic protests over several months in the wake of the shooting,” according to ABC 7.
Since then, the district attorney has not filed charges against Mensah. There is a separation agreement in progress, however.
Also related to Wisconsin shootings, Kyle Rittenhouse, who has been charged with killing two people during a protest in Wisconsin, posts a 2 million dollar bail.
The shooting killed Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber. It happened at a demonstration in August for a police shooting that left Jacob Blake dead.
“His case has taken on political overtones. Supporters of the Black Lives Matter movement have painted Rittenhouse as a trigger-happy white supremacist. Conservatives upset over property destruction during recent protests have portrayed him as a patriot exercising his right to bear arms during unrest,” according to CBC.
