Former first lady Michelle Obama is celebrating her 57th trip around the sun today. Known for being an inspiration for people across generations, Obama won hearts with her heartfelt speeches and acts of kindness.

Obama’s journey from a humble upbringing in the south side of Chicago to graduating from Princeton and Harvard University and becoming the first African American first lady, Obama has undoubtedly created a lifetime of memories.

Here are some of the former first lady’s best moments.

‘Evolution of Mom Dancing’ With Jimmy Fallon

During her time as the first lady, Obama made numerous late-night talk show appearances to promote her programs.

For the ‘Let’s Move!’ campaign, she and “Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon dressed in cardigans while performing dance moves like driving the car and the hip bump.

Michelle Obama Nails Carpool Karaoke

During the popular segment “Carpool Karaoke,” “Late Late Show” host James Corden and Obama nailed Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)” and Beyonce’s “Single Ladies.”

The two were also joined by hip-hop superstar Missy Elliott.

George W. Bush and Michelle Obama’s Hug

Despite being across the aisle politically, the Obama and Bush families have always been fond of one another. We got to see that fondness culminate in 2016 when Michell Obama had a warm embrace with former President George W. Bush at the opening of the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

In addition, the two became good friends throughout her husband’s tenure as president.

Photobombing the Miami Heat

During a campaign for ‘Let’s Move!’ to promote healthy eating, Obama teamed up with a few Miami Heat players.

While Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra interviewed Dwayne Wade and Ray Allen, Lebron James held up a mini-hoop that Obama slam-dunked. A hilarious moment we’ll never forget.

Michelle Obama’s Guest Appearance on ‘Parks and Rec’

In April 2014, Michelle Obama made a cameo in the comedy television series “Parks and Recreation.” Obama played herself in the two-part season six finale, as Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) takes a trip to San Francisco for the National Parks Conference and has a run-in with the First Lady.

In the episode, Obama also has a heartfelt conversation with Knope on the future of her career, and the two end their meeting with quite the awkward yet hilarious high-five.

Best-selling Author

While the first lady is no stranger to getting laughs on talk shows, she’s a very accomplished woman. Before the Netflix documentary on Obama, there was a book of the same name that she penned.

Becoming became the best-selling book of 2018, in part due to press stops such as an international speaking tour with Oprah Winfrey kicking off the show in Chicago.

Obama’s Grammy Win

In 2020, Obama added Grammy winner to her resume when she won the award for “Best Spoken Word Album.” The album acted as a narrated version of her memoir by the former First Lady herself.

However, she’ll need to win two more of those if she wants to beat her husband, who has two Grammys to his name.

Michelle Obama’s Democratic National Convention Speech

Many will remember Michelle Obama’s captivating speech at the 2016 Democratic National Convention as one of her best. She kicked off the address with beautifully powerful words of encouragement.

“When someone is cruel or acts like a bully, you don’t stoop to their level. No, our motto is …When they go low, we go high.” At the time, she didn’t know that those words would become the battle cry for Democrats in the election,” she said.
