Clinton, the 2016 Democratic Presidential nominee, took to social media on Friday to wish Trump a smooth road to recovery. Trump defeated Clinton in the 2016 election for the United States Presidency.
“We wish the President and First Lady a speedy recovery, and hope for the safety of the White House staff, the Secret Service, and others putting their lives on the line,” Hillary Clinton says. “This pandemic has affected so many. We must continue to protect ourselves, our families and communities.”
The president was diagnosed with COVID-19 earlier this week and was taken to Walter Reed Medical Center on Friday for treatment, according to the New York Times. Since his diagnosis was made public earlier this week, support came from numerous public figures. The president’s wife, Melania Trump, also tested positive for the coronavirus this week.
Former President Barack Obama, another prominent Democratic figure, also expressed support to the Trump family for a quick recovery process.
“Michelle and I hope that the President, First Lady, and all those affected by the coronavirus around the country are getting the care they need and are on the path to a speedy recovery,” he tweeted on Friday.
Hawaii Congresswoman and former presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard also used Twitter to wish the family well.
“My husband Abraham and I offer our best wishes and aloha to President @realdonaldtrump and the First Lady @flotus and praying for their speedy recovery,” Gabbard wrote. “We also send our best wishes to Ivanka, Tiffany, Donald Trump Jr., Eric and Barron during this difficult time.”
