Hillary Clinton’s Anniversary Post About Bill Clinton Has Twitter Sounding off

Former President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary celebrated their 45 wedding anniversary yesterday. Bill honored his wife with a post on Twitter that has seen some backlash.

On Twitter, former President Bill Clinton made a post for his wife of 45 years yesterday, saying, “October 11th was a beautiful day 45 years ago. Still is. The bride was beautiful too. And still is. Happy Anniversary, Hillary. I love you.”

The post has already gotten over 7,600 retweets, 2,600 quote tweets, as well as 145,600 likes.

Former First Lady and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee, Hillary Clinton quote tweeted the post with her own caption, saying, “The groom still cleans up pretty well, too. Love you, Bill.”

As of Monday morning, her repost received 12,300 retweets, 2,400 quote tweets, and 202,000 likes.

Twitter, however, has made many comments about the couple’s rocky relationship.

The Clinton / Lewinsky Scandal

While Clinton was in office, he had an affair with 22-year-old White House intern, Monica Lewinsky, between the years 1995 and 1997. In a statement, Clinton is famously quoted, saying, “I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky.”

Later, it was revealed that the two did have a relationship when Lewinsky came forward.

Monica Lewinsky is still in the public eye, all these years later. She is now an activist, TV personality, and fashion designer. Her two shows are The Clinton Affair and Mr. Personality, a reality show.

In addition, Hillary has remained by her husband’s side throughout the whole scandal, although they have gone through extensive counseling. In an interview by the Today Show in March, the couple recounts the affair, while noting their thoughts throughout the process.

Twitter’s Reaction

Users on both sides of the political scale commented to congratulate, as well as remind a couple of their past on the anniversary post on Twitter.
