As the U.S. government continues to focus on ways to boost the economy during the global health crisis, most Americans are beginning to wonder if another round of stimulus checks may be in the works.

The New York Post reported it does seem like new federal stimulus checks payments are unlikely anytime soon. The media outlet revealed that despite being pressured by the Senior Citizen League to give Social Security claimants another $1,400 check, many in the U.S. government don’t seem to agree on the topic at all.

For one, it might be difficult for both political parties to come together to pass another round of stimulus checks. But also, President Joe Biden has to be on board for another round as well. White House Press Secretary, Jen Psaki, previously spoke about the topic by noting that the previous checks were not free, Forbes reports. President Biden also does not reportedly have any plans for another round of checks.

However, although President Biden’s administration has not, at this time, announced plans for a potential new round of stimulus checks, it has offered a child tax credit. As previously reported, each payment does include $300 per child under the age of six and $250 for children ages six to seventeen. This credit is reportedly being offered to parents until the end of 2021.

What Has to Happen to Get Another Check?

Mark Zandi, Moody’s Analytics Chief Economic, previously spoke to Fortune in March 2021 about the stimulus check situation. He states that in order for another check to go out, lawmakers will receive pressure from voters in the event of another economic downturn.

Zandi also shared at the time, “The politics of it suggest there will be future stimulus checks.”

Who is Currently Missing Out on the Previous Federal & State Stimulus Checks?

The New York Post also reveals some Americans have yet to receive the last $1,400 federal stimulus check. The check notably went out at the beginning of 2021 under the Biden Administration. Those who have yet to receive payments are actually the 2021 newborns. Parents of the children will actually get the checks once they file their 2021 tax returns.

Meanwhile, in California, the state’s franchise tax board is now expecting to issue around nine million payments. This will be under the Golden State Stimulus II. But, 4.5 million Californians are still owed up to $1,100 in stimulus checks. The state has not revealed any plans for a third round of checks. But it’s definitely possible that the checks may continue in 2022.

Other states are also issuing their own stimulus checks.
