Jeep Wrangler Electric Model Likely Launching in 2023

Jeep Wrangler fans, the wait for an electric model may actually be here before we all know it. At least, that’s what Jeep’s Vice President of North American Operations, Jim Morrison, is predicting.

According to Fox News, Morrison said during his appearance at The Fox Garage there’s a good chance that Jeep will be rolling out the Wrangler electric model in 2023.

Morrison further reveals that Jeep is aiming to deliver a fully autonomous Wrangler that may potentially drop passengers off at the head of a hiking trail and meet them at the other end. “Our plan is this decade, and we keep pushing the limits on what’s accentuates freedom for our customers,” Morrison states.

President Biden Tests Out the Hybrid Jeep Wrangler 4xe on the White House Grounds

The news about Jeep planning to launch an all-electric Wrangler comes just days after President Joe Biden took a spin in a plug-in hybrid Wrangler 4xe.

Fox News reports Biden took the Wrangler for a test drive around the White House grounds after signing an executive order to have 50% of car sales in the U.S. to be all-electric, along with hydrogen fuel cell-powered or plug-in hybrids by 2030.

Morrison tells the media outlet sales this past spring reveals the Wrangler 4xe has become the best-selling plug-in hybrid in the U.S. “It’s gone from being the newest entrant three months ago and now the best selling plug-in hybrid in America. So, off to a great start,” Morrison shares.

The car brand’s VP further comments that he wanted the Wrangler 4xe to be a hit. He’s pretty ecstatic with the response. “The trick was making sure that it was a really capable Jeep first.”

Jeep says each of the Wrangler 4xe has a Level I (120V) charging system. The system plugs into a typical household outlet. Owners will get a faster charge with a Level II (240V) charger like Mopar’s TurboDX Electric Vehicle (EV) charger. They can also utilize the car brand’s approved partner, Qmerit, for installation.

Jeep further states that the Level II charge may fully charge the 4ex battery in approximately two hours compared the Level I’s 12-hour charge. The Wrangler 4xe has an EPA estimated 49 MPGe rating and 370 miles total driving range.

Jeep Plans to Become the Greenest SUV Brand

Christian Meunier, Global President of Jeep Brand, previously stated the Jeep 4xe vehicles will be the most efficient, responsible, and capable that the brand has ever created. “We are committed to make Jeep the greenest SUV brand,” Meunier proclaims. “The electrification of the Jeep lineup will allow commuters to travel solely on electric power. Delivering an efficient and fun on-road experience. Offering an ability to enjoy even more Jeep capability off-road in nearly complete silence.”

The Jeep Wrangler 4xe will be sold globally, with electric vehicle (EV) charge port plugs tailored to specific regions.
