Jimmy Carter and Wife Rosalynn Share Kiss in Viral New Year’s Photo

What better way to ring in the New Year than with a kiss from your sweetheart of 74 years? The longest-married presidential couple focus on celebrating their love during the upcoming year following the dangerous times of 2020.

Happy New Year to Jimmy Carter & Wife Rosalynn

On New Year’s Eve, Jimmy Carter, 96, shared a viral video of he and his wife Rosalynn, 93, sharing an intimate moment as the annual “peanut drop” from his hometown of Plains, Georgia.

In the sweet photo, former president Carter leaned in to gently nuzzle and give a kiss to Rosalynn as the two sat in their car. Rosalynn pulled her mask down while Jimmy gave her the kiss.

The image was posted on Facebook by Jill Stuckey, a longtime friend of the couple. Stuckey is also the superintendent of the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site. She added the caption: “I caught these folks kissing in my driveway tonight! If that doesn’t make your New Year start out right nothing will!!

Celebrating 2021 with a Kiss

“The man dropping the peanut was the Carters’ grandson-in-law,” said Stuckey. “He was standing in front of the room where the former president’s parents lived when they got married.”

However, the peanut drop happened at 8:00 p.m. ET instead of at the stroke of midnight. “We are old and don’t want to wait until midnight!” Stuckey added.

“Also, the Carters are always ahead of everyone else,” she jokingly told The Hill.

Carter was sworn in as the 39th president, serving from 1977 through 1981 with Rosalynn by his side.

Couple Encourage COVID Vaccine

The two have managed to fight to maintain the longest marriage in the history of presidential relationships, as well as fight through the year of COVID-19, which was especially harmful to the elderly.

The two have encouraged Americans to receive the vaccine once it’s readily available. It’s seemingly becoming more available each day. It is unknown, as of yet, if the couple has received their own. However, last month, the former President revealed plans to take the vaccine when possible.

“After consulting with his doctors, President Carter is looking forward to receiving the COVID-19 vaccine when it is available to him,” the Jimmy Carter Foundation said in a statement.
