Twitter users have called out Kamala Harris for “copying” Melania Trump’s style. The Democratic vice president candidate wore a pair of Timberland boots while surveying damage caused by the California wildfires.
On Tuesday (Sept.15), Harris toured a Red Cross evacuation center and the aftermath as a result of the Creek Fire with Governor Gavin Newsom. During the trip, Harris sported a white shirt, green jacket, jeans and Timberland boots.
In 2017, Trump wore a pair of Timberland boots when she surveyed damage caused by Hurricane Harvey. She also wore the pair when she visited American troops at the Al Asad Air Base in Iraq in 2018. According to Refinery29, people online mocked the first lady for her boots as a result.
As a result, Twitter users called the Democratic candidate out online.
Several Twitter users are accusing Harris of “stealing” the first lady’s style. For instance, they posted comparison photos between the two.
Several users said it was “hypocritical” to mock Trump for wearing Timberlands but praise Harris. They cited two opposing Yahoo News stories as confirmation of a media bias. The publication reported users mocking Trump’s style in 2018, and since then, it praised Harris for wearing Timberlands. The first lady has face backlash during President Donald Trump’s term in office for some of her style choices. For instance, a green dress Trump wore to the Republican National Convention ended up a meme online.
