Today is Inauguration Day. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be sworn in as the president and vice-president of the United States.

Donald Trump and Melania Trump are breaking a long tradition. The two will not be welcoming the next president into the White House or attending the inauguration ceremony. Instead, they are currently on their way to Florida.

Maren Morris Subtle Shade

Country artist Maren Morris tweeted her thoughts on Inauguration Day regarding the switch of power in the country. Of course, it was delivered in a sly way, using lyrics from one of her hits.

She took to Twitter to write, “the wolves came and went and we’re still standing.”

The tweet is actually lyrics from her song “The Bones.”

However, due to its timing, it is some very subtle shade directed at the soon-to-be-former president and his officials. In terms of the White House today, Morris would probably think that “the house don’t fall when the bones are good.” This meaning, the White House’s new inner integrity will make for a stronger structure for the government.

One user completed another lyric from the song. They use her words to remind other social media users that if the foundation is strong, there is no shaking the structure.

Commenter Points Out COVID-19 Deaths

One person replied to her tweet by saying, “Except for the more than 400,000 of us who aren’t.”

This is a point that is especially influential as the media reported yesterday that the U.S. had surpassed 400,000 dead as the official death toll from COVID-19. The country is nearing one year with the deadly pandemic.

According to The New York Times, Biden announced last week that he would “manage the h-ll out of this operation.” He said he and his team will work with scientists throughout the process. He wants to especially help those disproportionally affected, which has been the Black, Latino, and Indigenous Americans.

There will be coverage of the inauguration all day from 6 a.m. to midnight ET. It can be streamed on many sites, such as CNN.

Maren Morris Song Promoting Change

Morris has a new song out called “Better Than We Found It.” She performed the song on January 4th on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.”

The goal of the song is to call for action. It is also to take responsibility for the state of the world at the moment

“It’s the most American thing to protest, and protest songs have been so embedded in American culture. I think the world right now is sort of in a perpetual mourning period, and I wanted to have a song that had weight but also had hope,” Morris said to Taste of Country.

The proceeds of her song are being donated to the Black Women’s Health Imperative. This is a nonprofit that is “created by Black women to help protect and advance the health and wellness of Black women and girls.”

Morris continues to be one of the most outspoken country artists. She hopes that her new song can be something that paints an accurate picture of what a lot of people are coping with.

“I still have hope for this country and for the future of it, and as a new mother, I wanted to promise my son that I’m going to do everything in my power to leave this world better than the one I came into and the one I see right now,” Morris said.
