After four years of battling stage four brain cancer, Maria Menounos’ mother, Litsa, has passed away.

On Sunday, the TV personality revealed the tragic news via Instagram with a heartwrenching, black-and-white photo of the two during their last few moments with one another. “RIP mom, God loved her so much he took her on greek easter,” the 42-year-old wrote in the caption. “Christ is risen mom,” Menounos added in Greek.

Before her mom’s passing, she announced on her show “Better Together” that her mom was on “a rough journey” over the past few months as she began a round of chemotherapy. Moreso, she revealed that her parents had been hospitalized with COVID-19 in November, right after doctors realized that Litsa’s brain tumor was growing. Menounos and her husband Keven Undergaro quickly traveled to the hospital to be with her mom.

Maria Menounos Pens Heartwarming Birthday Post For Her Mom

“We land, and that’s when this all started,” she said. “I’m just going to share that we’re in the process right now, and we still need prayers. Long story short is that within a few hours, both of my parents were diagnosed with COVID.” In September, Menounos published a heartwarming birthday post for her mom. She also added that her mother was a four-year cancer survivor.

“In my darkest moments, fear never let me see this day possible,” she captioned the heartwarming post. “Faith however would whisper in my ear. I am moved and inspired by your fearlessness and calm throughout this journey.”

She continued, “Mom, I love you more than words can express,” she added. “I will fight for you and with you everyday. I pray God gives us many more years so you can see your dream of grandchildren come true. Happy birthday to many more.”

Menounos also shared that she had brought both her parents back home to Connecticut after spending more than a year and a half in Los Angeles. However, getting them home safely amid the pandemic wasn’t easy. Nevertheless, she was able to do so with the help of a friend who owned a private plane.

“You made her dream come true,” Menounos told her friend, Ed Mylett, during an episode of “Better Together.” “She’s been so dying to come home. It’s been over a year and a half, and she flew home so comfortably.”

In the wake of her mother’s passing, friends, family, and colleagues have offered Menounos an outpouring of support. Zoe Saldana wrote, “We send you so much love. Our deepest condolences, Maria.” “Sending all my love,” wrote Jamie Lynn Spears.
