Mel Brooks issued his first-ever political endorsement video on Wednesday. In it, the comedy legend, his son — novelist Max Brooks, and his grandson say they are supporting Democrat Joe Biden. And, of course, Twitter has some thoughts.

“My father, @MelBrooks, is 94. He has never made a political video. Until now. #MelBrooks4JoeBiden #BidenHarris #GrassrootsDemHQ,” Max Brooks tweeted Wednesday. It included a video of his father.

Famed director Mel Brooks, who wrote and directed “Blazing Saddles” and “The Producers” among many more classic films, said he chose Biden because of the coronavirus pandemic. Max and his son are standing outside behind Mel in the Twitter video. The reason, he says, is because they’re social distancing for COVID-19 and because “Donald Trump isn’t doing a damn thing about it.”

“So many people have died,” he joked. “And when you’re dead you can’t do much.”

Brooks said he likes Biden because “Joe likes facts,” he said, sporting a “Cup of Joe” campaign mug. ‘Because Joe likes science, and Joe will keep us going.”

Brooks joins a growing list of celebrities who have endorsed Biden. Though some has chosen to back Trump as well.

Mel Brooks endorses Biden, Twitter freaks out

This isn’t the first time Mel Brooks has caused a stir on Twitter because of his political take. Over the summer, people were excited when he posted a photo of himself and Carl Reiner wearing “Black Lives Matter” shirts. And his films all carry a fairly liberal bent. So, his endorsement wasn’t surprising. But it still got a lot of people excited.

Including a long list of celebrities.

Cary Elwes, best known his role as Westley in “The Princess Bride,” weighed in. He also played the lead role in Brooks’ “Robin Hood: Men in Tights.”

Comedian Mike Birbiglia quote tweeted the video.

Brooks had plenty of support from his fans, as well.

Trump supporters were also in the comments, however,
